I have nothing but praise for this wonderful establishment...... we booked the Saxon Inn as our base for the Platinum Jubilee weekend and a visit to the Kynren. We could have not picked a better place to stay, from the moment we arrived to the day we checked out we where made to feel very welcome by both the Management and Staff, even the locals that used the hotel bars made us feel right at home. The hotel has 9 rooms, and our party of 4 stayed in rooms 5 and 7, The Rooms where very comfortable and spotless, the beds gave you a great nights sleep. The hotel food was excellent, and plentiful. What makes this hotel a wee gem is its Staff, The Staff could not do enough for you, nothing was a problem for them, they went about their day making sure you had a wonderful stay. A special thank you has to go to Vicky and Margaret for looking after us so well. The hotel put on events for its guests and locals of the village to celebrate the Jubilee weekend with Live Music, a BBQ, a Jubilee buffet..... that was a great touch by the hotel as we mixed with the locals and had a cracking time. Thank you the Saxon Hotel...... for making our Platinum Jubilee weekend a fantastic one.

Enjoy a laid-back stopover at our Premier Inn Bishop Auckland hotel. Set just a short drive away from the city centres of Durham and Darlington, it's a great base for stays in the north east. Explore the sites around this small market town - from art exhibitions to live music, there's always something going on at the Bishop Auckland Town Hall, plus Auckland Castle is a must see for history-lovers. Alternatively, why not head over to Bishop Auckland Retail Park for a bit of shopping, or tour Locomotion, the National Railway Museum at Shildon. However you choose to spend your day, our Brewers Fayre restaurant is a great place to start your evening.
I would like to say a particular thank you to Beverley who helped me so much. I had a bit of a hotel booking disaster and the hotel I was due to stay in was simply not fit for habitation, it was awful. So I arrived cold, wet and without a booking but Beverley was friendly & helpful. You know what you get with a premier inn, they are clean, comfortable and convenient. What set this apart was the staff, both in the hotel and the restaurant attached. I was well looked after and had a warm bed for the night. I would certainly recommend.

We spent two wonderful nights here on a walking holiday. The house is a large Victorian former vicarage. Stuart and Kathryn were extraordinary hosts, genuinely warm and welcoming, and providing first-class service. Our dinners (salmon with roasted vegetables) were beautifully prepared and presented -- and delicious. Our bedroom and bathroom were huge and comfortable. There was plenty of room both indoors and outdoors to relax in a beautiful setting.
