We stayed over night en route to the Pays Basque and whilst off the beaten track this place ticked all the boxes. It’s a simple and charming place where you are warmly welcomed by Ruud & Chiara. Had a tasty burger for dinner, a good nights sleep and a yummy breakfast. Our furry friend was well looked after too! We wished we would have stayed another night as the region is an unexpected delight.

Located on the “place” with Hotel de Ville, church and abbey.Note that Trip Advisor lists this hotel in two places—as a hotel and as a restaurant. Rooms are modest and small but tasteful; rather modern private bathrooms and (hallelujah) none of those smothering “couettes” that are now all the rage and do not allow you to fine-tune your night-time warmth. They use old-school blankets! The pillows provide decent support (not the super-poofy kind) and everything is very clean. Hot water relatively slow but good. Wifi is flickering and weak. One can get demi-pension (meaning dinner) for extra cost and although the service is slow because only two gentlemen appear to run the whole hotel/restau in the off-season, it is adequate. They speak some English and are cooperative, although the menu is not very flexible (again: old-school French). There are 3 formules (prix fixe menus), mostly meat but at least locavore! They worked with us the best they could for the veggie eaters. Easy walking distance to the Canal (behind the church and uphill). This trail is gentle, birdy, and heavily wooded, with connections to the famous St Jacques de Compostella network.
