Any city that can be the butt of a Simpson's joke ("That's it! We're all going back to Winnipeg!") and simultaneously one of the most vibrant cultural centers in Canada is tops in our book. The city's history of isolation and self-sufficiency means that Winnipeggers are unpretentious and sincere (and fun-loving enough to name Homer an honorary citizen). Though the winters are long and cold, there are plenty of indoor activities to both keep you warm and stimulate your imagination.

This trail comes alive with song birds, fresh berries and surrounds you with nature right inside the city limits. It is a historic part of the Trans Canada Trail that runs from Sturgeon Lion Parkway through Assiniboine Forest, all the way down to the Headingley trail at the perimeter. You feel you've been transported at times into the heart of the wilderness. Great for walking, biking and exploring as a family.

The Bois-des-Esprits is a multiple trail forest space in the city which is amazing. While walking the trails you might see various wildlife, wildflowers, the Spirit Tree, painted WinnipegRocks, wonderful carvings in tree trunks, PressOn art, and all the different people biking/walking/running/walking the dog etc. For the most part the trail is clean. The trail has multiple benches to sit and enjoy the Forest Birdsongs. It’s a wonderful place to explore and enjoy the feels of nature.
