Meise Botanic Garden is more than two centuries old and is a feast for the senses. It is a place enchanting to the local hiker as well as to the tourist looking for something more. You wander through 92 hectares of nature, with 18,000 plant species from all over the world and with world-class botanical and horticultural collections! You visit the castle, the gigantic glasshouses, the gardens and you can learn all about wood in the WOODlab. Different every day and every season at its best. Here, science and nature meet each other in a picturesque historic domain. A botanical pearl in the heart of Europe.
If you are staying in Brussels or even in Antwerp to visit Belgium and you are interested in plants, nature or science: do go and visit this place. You will have a lovely walk on a well kept domain and the the big greenhouse is the star of the show. The domain is big enough, so it will never be too crowded. Seeing everything at a good pace will take you 3-4 hours and you will get 10,000 steps in your legs, so be prepared. Not sure about the connection with public transport, but it really is a hidden gem and worth a visit.

In the nineteenth century and until around WW II, Belgium enjoyed a leading position in the international field of horticulture and fruit farming in particular. The Gaasbeek Museum Garden takes visitors right back to those glory days. In association with the Agency for Immovable Heritage, the Agency for Nature and Forests has put all its know-how and passion into building a garden of unrivalled beauty, taking its cues from the castle gardens as they were in the 19th century. A masterly example of living cultural heritage. The focal point is the garden’s unique collection of fruit trees in espalier shapes. The Gaasbeek Museum Garden is around 5 acres in size, located in stunning surroundings within Gaasbeek Estate, with a view of the Castle and a ten-kilometre panoramic vista of the Pajottenland. Also open to visitors in the local area are the Castle Museum, Gaasbeek Park and Groenenberg Park with its unique collections. Well worth a visit.
