Visiting this enables you to view where the Rogue River actually travels underground (through a lava tube). Excellent scenery/white water. One request: I found an abandoned diaper on the trail close by. Please remember: if you bring it in, pack it out. This kind of thing ruins an already-shrinking habitat. If you have to do your business, bring a shovel. And, no, I'm not an environmentalist, but actually a hunter. Not much brain science: You don't take care of the environment, soon there will be nothing left to hunt and eat. Speaking of which, this is a hunting free area/unit.

Easy short walk along the Rogue River Gorge. Four viewpoints with signs explaining how the gorge was formed. Very pretty views of the river, with some rushing water and some calm water. You can see the collapsed lava tube that the water is running through when the water is low enough (it was obvious at this time of year). The walk is easy; there are stairs to one viewpoint, but you can skip them and stay on the main path. Doesn't take long to see but definitely worth the stop.

A very short hike in either direction (a few hundred feet in from the parking area) gets you different and fabulous views. The signs do not tell you this!! If you go to the left, you see the wild and crazy Avenue of the Boulders. The Rogue River blasts through monster size rocks with incredible fury, and you can safely get very close to it. It is very loud and very impressive. If you take the trail right, you get to see Mill Creek Falls. It's a great view of a simply beautiful waterfall. A very rewarding place to visit.

You drive about 4 miles off OR-230 on a paved 1-1/2 lane road to the parking area. The parking area is dirt. The hike is about half a mile downhill on switchbacks. The falls are quite beautiful and worth the hike down and back. There is no cell phone service, so you will have to save the photos to send out later.

The trail from the dedicated parking lot to Pearsony Falls is clearly marked over some slightly hilly terrain and extends to the giant boulders overlook. Very well worth an hour or so of time as it is very peaceful with little foot traffic.
