Took limekiln trail to Kennedy and down the other side. This is an extremely well graded trail that rises 2000’. No water at trailhead and scant reception, at least for t-mobile. Didn’t see any wildlife. Saw a couple hikers and several Moi rain bikers.

We had planned a Sonoma/Napa trip since April. The disastrous wildfires started while we were in Rohnert Park and we scurried back to San Francisco and San Jose – disappointed that our Wine Country trip was disrupted, but feeling much compassion and sympathy for the folks directly in the fire’s devastation. We found an awesome alternative destination near Los Gatos – Byington Vineyards & Winery. What a remarkable venue at the end of a rather challenging trip up Bear Creek Road. Our personal “Uber” driver Bob navigated a Dodge Caravan along the winding narrow road where there were more than a few places/turns where his fellow travelers were a bit white-knuckled. Byington has beautiful grounds and splendid views of the Santa Cruz mountains from their Wedding Hill. Bailey Garcia was the ultimate host in the tasting room and was truly knowledgeable about the wines on the tasting flight, as well as the history of Byington. Bailey even gave us a brief tour of the wine cave that made our day. Picnic tables, BBQ grills, and a Bocce Ball court are on the premises and if visiting on a Sunday, be sure to check out their live music offerings.
