A surprising adventure... With wool! The unexpected pleasures of the rich heritage of Cotswold sheep, wool, weaving, and cloth. Explore and buy genuine Cotswold-designed woollen cloth, garments and accessories. Interiors and art galleries, rug warehouse, Explorium, limestone sculpture, textile museum, licensed coffee-shop in beautiful surroundings. Free, enticing, intoxicating, delightful. Open all year.
We visited this lovely combination of museum, shop, and gallery on a lovely April day. Set in a quaint cotswold village, the centre consists of a number of converted barns that house a beautiful collection of woven textiles for the home; high quality (predominantly woollen) clothing, including a wide choice of coats, jackets, caps and hats; traditional weavers machinery and assorted historical items including thick leatherbound books of fabric swatches. if you like or are interested in beautiful fabrics/heritage/weaving/ wool/ industrial processes/ lovely buildings/ stonemasonry, or you just fancy a relaxing trip to the wonderful cafe, do not hesitate to visit. Although some elements of the visit weren't quite as fascinating to my 11 and 13 year olds as they were to myself and parents(70s), we all loved the cafe! pleasant seating inside and out, with delicious homemade food. For £5.50 I had tomato soup with a cheese scone; the soup was delicious and fresh but the scone was to die for- large, soft and moist yet lightly crumbly with a delicate hint of fresh thyme. Portions were fine for a healthy appetite, and my daughter had generous smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches with some crisps and decent salad garnish for £4.50. We so enjoyed the savoury food we further indulged in sampling various cakes which were equally of high quality, deliciousness, and good value. Just go... you won't regret it!

We combined two Cotswold Water Park walks - Lechlade Seven Stiles & St John's Lock. The route was easy to find and followed the River Thames - excellent views across the river to the town with strategically placed swans- and then back through the picturesque town. There were lots of very detailed interpretation boards with the history of the navigation and the town - which had not become unreadable due to UV, which is often the fate of such boards. We stopped at the Trout Inn for lunch which was very good - excellent choice of beer.
