Beautiful roadside stop. I live in California where we have giant redwoods and sequoias. The Kauri tree is just as majestic as these. The walk is pretty easy and the man-made boardwalks easy to navigate. Definitely worth a stop to see these beautiful, giant trees if you are traveling through the north west part of the North Island of New Zealand.

We were originally planning to visit Tāne Mahuta, but that was a bit too much of a drive from our Paihia accommodation so we opted to visit this forest walk instead. We're glad we did too as we've not seen a kauri forest before and we were impressed by the scale of the trees. Apart from the 3-4km of gravel road to get there, this is a beautiful spot that's an easy walk in a serene setting. Well worth a visit.

An amazing 30 minute walk through a beautiful Kauri forest park. The path meanders through the park past hundreds of beautiful Kauri trees, but also, very sadly, past a number of trees dying from Kauri Die Back.
A scenically spectacular cross-country cycling and walking journey from the Bay of Islands to Hokianga Harbour. Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail travels from coast to harbour, wetlands, native forest and significant heritage sites. Our Twin Coast trail opens with a beautiful sunrise and closes in the west with a spectacular sunset.
