This attraction is hardly advertised and information about it is difficult to find on the Internet. Yuntian Cultural City (aka “Cloud and Sky”/”Yun Tian Gong” temple) is a 21 storey “cultural centre” in Yulin that has a massive copper Buddha allegedly the tallest indoor Buddha statue in the world at 33m high and weighing 600 tonnes. I understand the centre was built in 1998 by an entrepreneur from Taiwan at a cost of approximately 30M dollars and is considered to be a (quite controversial) attempt to replicate the "Potala Palace” in Tibet. When we visited on a Saturday, there was hardly anyone else there, and we saw some amazingly intricate wooden and jade carvings, enjoyed the splendid views over the city and a walk around the lovely gardens, enjoying a very pleasant lunch provided as part of the ticket price. We visited on a June day when temperatures were around 30 degrees centigrade in the shade, but there were plenty of cool areas inside and out of the building to sit and contemplate. We were only in Yulin for a day, as we were visiting some family there, so didn't have time to see much else of the city. In our opinion, it is worth taking a significant detour just to visit this 'temple' and you can easily spend a full day there admiring all the exhibits inside the building as well as the impressive features outside.
