A visit to Lewis and Harris is like stepping into the pages of a Scottish fairy tale. In Lewis, the northern part of the island, the legendary Callanish Standing Stones poke up from the ground like a strange and massive rock city. The Blackhouse, the Shawbost Norse Mill and Kiln, and the Carloway Broch all offer a peek at what island life used to look like. In southern Harris, the east side beaches boast some of the oldest known rocks in the world, dating back millions of years. Cruise over to the volcanic islands of St. Kilda to explore the ruins of a medieval village.

Being on Lewis during the brisk off-season was my goal. Un-crowded and tranquil, this tour of the island was personal and filled with historical information, good stories, and a peek into the life of a very important part of Scottish life. The scenery is breathtaking. The variety in the landscape from peat fields to snow-capped mountains, rugged rocky ground to sand beaches, viking longhouses to modern stone rock houses, was thrilling. The weather changed from moment to moment! Truly! A windy sunny half hour became a quick hail storm until the sun came out again ten minutes later and the air was fresh and brisk again with a breath of spring. The environment is dramatic. Just gorgeous. St Clemons church is not to be missed. Annie was an excellent guide, personable and fun, and was able to show me a few extra sights because we made good time. Her love of the place and her interest in sharing its history was a privilege to see.

Having visited the island a few times before, my partner and myself were taken on a day tour of Lewis by 'Annie' our tour guide, collected from our accommodation and driven around with a full commentary all day including some stops where she escorted us around attractions such as Black-houses and Shielings, she explained not only the history but also detailed information about there uses and how families lived or sheltered in such housing. She was very informative and having been born and lived on the island all her life had immense knowledge of the area and people making it a unique and priceless tour in which you will not match anywhere else on the island. The tour covered not only the regular tourist attractions and some you would not normally find or have heard of but also the history of the island and it's produce such as locally produced food, drink and clothing. This tour is a must for every visitor to the island, dont think you can self guide yourself as you will miss out on so much history and information - this tour really does make your holiday and we fully recommend it.

Spent 5 days touring the Outer Hebrides. What a glorious place. The scenery is spectacular and the people warm and friendly. I broke a tooth over the weekend and on monday morning presented myself at a dentist on the Isle of Benbecula who straight away repaired it . Well done Mr Jolly. On a tour round the Isle of Barra we were lucky to see the only scheduled flight land on the beach. The official runway. The island itself is very pretty and the beaches spectacular. If you want shops etc don,t go, but you will be missing the most wonderful experience.
