An unexpected fantastic experience. Oay is a very kind woman who collected us from our house in a truck which was fun. She brings you to a market and shows you all different Thai foods and ingredients and answers any questions. You are then brought to her house (only 15 minute drive) where you make 5 meals. You can choose what meals to cook from a little booklet she has, which is a soup, a salad, 2 mains of curries, noodle dishes, etc., and a desert. She takes you through all the ingredients and steps as you cook. Food was 10 times tastier than imaginable. She loves to take pictures and is fun. Place was very clean and air conditioned. You sit and eat the meals at a table and she provides beverages. At the end she gives you a recipe book of all of the ingredients and meals to take with you. Amazing experience to learn Thai food!

I highly recommend this experience! I took part in the Home Host dinner during my recent stay in Chiang Mai this month and loved everything about it. Our host, Joe, was very friendly and informative about the history of his family and the Lanna culture. We got the experience of learning how to make food ourselves as well as trying several delicious dishes prepared by the host and his family. If you're staying in Chiang Mai, I urge you to try this unforgettable experience.

Lin and her team were professional, friendly, well prepared and provided me the opportunity to learn Lanna cooking from scratch. I was in Chiang Mai two years ago and took a generic cooking class when I first arrived, before I got to taste the unique Lanna cuisine. That class was half show and half cooking class. This was different. When I arrived in Chiang Mai this time, I was determined to learn some of the dishes I loved on my previous visit. I googled CM cooking class with kkao soi, gaeng hung lay and soi oua. Only Lin’s school came up, I was set. Lin picked me up in the morning and we went to market to pick up supplies and taste a few things. In the car, Lin told me she was bossy and wanted me to get to do every part of the cooking.......yes chef, I am ready! Arriving at her property out of town a bit, we walked through her lovely garden where I could see, smell and touch all the ingredients that at home look so flat and listless in the Lao grocery store I shop to hope to find what I need. I knew the dishes were going to bring a party to my mouth, popping with flavor. The open air cooking area was large, comfortable, well equipped and ready to be fired up. Lin explained what we needed to do for each dish, laid out the ingredients and guided and helped me proceed with chopping, slicing and pounding in the mortar with pestle. She answered questions, gave me technique corrections and pushed me and joked around as we kept busy. Her staff was buzzing around making sure that all was moving smoothly and helping me along. I was involved in every part of the process, working hard ( or at least I thought so), and as fast as I could, although I am sure they might differ on that. In the end, we got it all done from start to finish and I think it was delicious, and so my wife told me when I brought her dinner back to the condo. This was a great experience with Lin and her team who provided a warm, family like setting for me to share the love of their food and be able to bring it home with me for my family to share. Many thanks to Lin and her team. If you are serious about wanting to learn to cook Lanna cuisine....TAKE THIS CLASS!
