6 Campgrounds in Faroe Islands: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 29, 2023 Myesha Cogley

Bobbing in the frothing North Atlantic, the remote, 18-piece Faroes are a picturesque patchwork of emerald pastures, dotted with sheep, gaily-hued cottages and tree-free moors. The sea is never more than three miles distant in this proud, assured land, where deep-rooted traditions remain strong. The coasts boast deep fjords, steep cliffs and looming headlands. Explore these fjords by wooden sloop or sail the coast by schooner. Walk the fells and brave the unpredictable weather to puffin spot.

Interesting location but not worth the money

Reviewed By LisaSuomi

The location of the campsite is beautiful and unique as campers and caravans will stay on an old abandoned football field. It is a nice walk next to the lake from/to the town of Eiði where you will find one supermarket. We arrived with our tent and there are (not so many even) tent places next to the lake with nice views. The facilities (they were used by the football players before) are run down and neither in a good shape nor clean. There are common showers (one for women, one for men) but water is not really warm but at least showers are for free. In the middle there is another big room with a diaper-changing table and one shower and toilet which you can lock. Three are only three toilets inside (one light was broken and not fixed until we left) and there is another toilet you can access from outside but it has a broken lock. There are a lot of locals staying with children so pitch your tent a bit far away from the house and noise if you want a peaceful sleep. The kitchen is small and dark and not very well equipped and clean. So best is if you have your own cooking gear. There are benches to sit outside as well but if the kitchen is crowded and it is raining it can be hard to find a place to sit down and get warm. The price is 200 DKK incl. power for a camper or caravan. Coming with a tent is not very cheap. It will cost you 100 DKK per person. To use the kitchen it is another 20 DKK, same for washing maschine and dryer. There are a lot more beautiful and better tent sites on the Faroe Islands – I would not come here again.

Okay if budget conscious

Reviewed By ReeceHenry

Due to visiting the Faroe’s during their national festival we did not have a lot of options for the four of us. The room was extremely small, basically we had to have shifts to move about in the room. The shared facilities were clean and okay. Things are not new and are a little tired but overall the place is kept clean. Location is close to the airport and some good hikes but a long way from the capital

Peaceful place in beautiful nature

Reviewed By LisaSuomi

We stayed here for one night. The place is right next to the sea (gravel parking lot, there are no signs) and there is some grass where you can pitch your tent. There are two picnic tables as well and a water source. The public toilets are 150 m away and very clean. The view is amazing and in the night it was very quiet. It is for free! There are two hikes between Elduvík and Oyndafjørður and Elduvík and Funningsfjørð. There is a nice gorge when you walk through the charming little town down to the sea (Inn a Gjogv).

Unique place to camp on the island Nolsoy

Reviewed By LisaSuomi

We stayed for one night at the camp site. There are no signs but if you get off the ferry (it takes 20 min and costs per person 40 DKK return) you will see a map of the town where the camp site is marked (it is close to the big Nollywood Sign). There are only a few even places to pitch your tent. There is one great spot surrounded by a stone wall – perfect protection against wind. It is a simple campsite – the public toilets are 250 m away (where you can get water as well) and there are some picnic benches at the sea but not directly on the campsite. There is a shop in the town. In the night it was really quite so if you are looking for a place to relax this is the place to go. The start of the hiking trail to the lighthouse is close as well. Nolsoy is a cute colourful little town itself, a bit special – but worth visiting. The campsite is only for tents and it is for free!

Nice facilities but not nice for tents

Reviewed By LisaSuomi

We stayed for one night at Vestmanna Camping. They have a big house with a lot of space. There is a clean kitchen and a cosy living room with couches (free Wifi) and in the corridor there are lots of tables, too. Bathrooms are clean as well. Shower costs 20 DKK for six minutes of warm water. Once you put the money in it starts running and can not be stopped. Washing maschine costs 20 DKK as well. There are lot of caravans parked and in one corner they made space for tents. It is next to the street and it turned out the grass on the tent site is only putted on the gravel underground. So if you try to put in your tent herrings – it will not work. There is not a lot of space for tents and there are still some steel chains left on the ground (they use them to stabilize caravans in cases of strong winds) which even minimizes the space. Overall, it is not a great place for tents at all. The owners are at the camp site every day around 9 am and 8 pm.

Nice place next to the sea

Reviewed By LisaSuomi

We stayed for two nights with our tent at the campsite. There are plenty spots for tents which are a bit protected from wind. The road is close though and sometimes the traffic can be a bit disturbing. There are some tables to sit outside. The modern facility building is great! The clean big kitchen is well equipped and there are enough tables to sit and couches to relax. There are enough bathrooms and showers (for 5 min it costs 10 DKK, but you can stop the water in between). The city center and ferry terminal is only a 15-20 min walk away. There are bus stops close by as well to catch one of the free city buses. The reception is only open for one or two hours in the evening or morning.
