We have been staying at Big Chetac Resort for the past 13 years, sometimes with kids and grandkids, sometimes just the two of us. The resort is always clean, has everything needed including a fully stocked kitchen, and the best part is the beautiful lake and all it has to offer! We love the fishing and always catch lots of bluegills and crappies!! Campfires by the lake are always so special, too! Our grandkids love the play area and we all love the chance to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the resort!

Birch Lake's Resort Lodge Grill & Tiki Bar

Hidden Gem in the Wisconsin Woods

Reviewed By BlondieTTT

Girls trip - Long weekend getaway, this resort was perfect for us. Cabin was very comfortable and very clean. Nicely equipped with everything you need in the kitchen. Having the bar and grill there was convenient, but holy cow- the food was amazing. Burgers and Wings are the specialty and we can see why. Live music out on the deck Sat and Sun brought in the crowds, so we ordered our food to go and enjoyed it on our deck overlooking the lake. Music was late afternoon to early eve- so it was not a disruption at all. Relaxing atmosphere with families enjoying this little gem in the woods of Wisconsin. The pool on site looks over Birch Lake and is heated. The only disappointment was, there was not a place for a campfire, but in the end, not a big deal. It would also be nice if some of the low laying trees be trimmed out between cabin and lake for a better lake view. Thank you Bev, Pete, Nikki and staff for your hard work and dedication to hospitality. We will be back. PS. We rented a pontoon from Ri-Shells resort across the lake. Great addition to the trip.

Great location - horrible cabins - growing pains

Reviewed By Ande S

I wanted to share our recent experience staying at BearPaw in August 2020. My family and I rented 4 cabins and 1 camper site for the week. My family has been going to Lake Chetac since the 1950’s and have stayed at a variety of resorts over the years including BearPaw (prior owners) and when it was T.P campground for years before that. BearPaw is under new ownership for close to a year now and they are doing some exciting things but also going through some growing pains. The Good: Great Location and views of the lake. The best crappie fishing seemed to be right in front of the resort. There is a public landing just down the road, and the views of the lake especially from cabin 3 and 4 are wonderful. Campsite 5 and the other cabins are hindered by tree growth Note: BP no longer rents boats or motors - I had to go to another resort to do that. Improvements to the bar, addition of a deck, firepit ect are very nice. There are now 2 usable docks so lots of places to park a boat or hang out. The new owners have added a large number of seasonal camper sites which to some may be great, Having stayed there for years the new sites are compressed and no trees so reminded me of a parking lot and a loss to the back woods resort that was part of the previous charm. The Bad: The cabins are in desperate need of remodel which the owners say are their focus for 2021. Black mold in the showers, broken AC, horrible mattresses… they need a lot of work and keep in mind I am no stranger to a fishing cabin experience including these cabins themselves. Our biggest issue was cleanliness. We walked in on Saturday to begin our stay and immediately saw potato chips and cookies under couches (couches are log style with 18” of clear view under them so hard for a cleaning crew to miss). A walk across the floor in white socks immediately turned them black… again not normal fishing cabin environment here… dirty! We immediately spent an hour scrubbing down the cabins. The grills were horrible and we asked about getting them cleaned or supplies to clean them. Faye, the owner, said that she didnt know that was a thing and would tell Will, other owner, but “he needed a break from people that day and had had a hard day”... We never got the grills cleaned and finally went and got supplies to do it ourselves When I randomly saw Will the owner as we checked out he thanked me for letting him know about the cabins as he had no idea, which means they are not doing a cabin check before folks check in or following up on cleaning crew. One note about Covid. I had gotten a newsletter from another resort saying to comply with State Covid guidelines they were not allowing check-in in until Sunday to allow 24 hours between guest stays. When I asked the owner he had never heard of this and that BP was in total compliance with State guidelines. He indicated the other resort was having trouble with cleaning staff and that was why. A 10 minute google search for Wisconsin guidelines and I found this COVID-19-Lodging_cl.pdf reference to the 24 hour guideline I also noticed no masks in the bar which is small and hard to social distance, however in a facebook post for the bar they are wearing masks. I think the new owners are doing some great things but it was clear the cabin rentals were not their priority. You pay for everything when you check in so no chance for them to get feedback when you check out unless you have a random encounter like we did or search them out. Other resorts the owners swing by during the first part of the week to see how things are going and I think they should start doing that Not sure we will go back to BP unless we are sure some improvements have been made. My family needs a place for camper and cabins so options are limited but will check out other resorts if we go again next year.

Relaxing

Reviewed By Vacationers099

We have stayed at this resort for over 20 years. Cottages are light and airy not all paneling. We love the screened in porch. No campers here-just the 9 cabins. We find it very relaxing and restful. My husband love the fishing. Location is great-close to both Rice Lake and Hayward to go on a day trip. Gene and Nancy strive to make your vacation enjoyable and are constantly updating and adding to their resort every year to make improvements. We love this place. It is our home away from home

New owner is rude and known for unreasonably kicking people out of his establishments.

I don’t recommend going to Lincolnwood as it is recently under new management. The new owner is rude to customers and his staff. I will no longer be supporting Lincolnwood or any other establishments owned by the owner.
