Trim Castle

Completed around 1220, the Irish Parliament met there several times in the 15th century. It was also used as a mint for the country's currency. In modern times, "Braveheart" was filmed in Trim Castle.

Included in your entrance fee to the castle is a 45 min guided tour - which we found very interesting, informative, and enjoyable and learned why this ruin is really considered more of a Keep as opposed to a castle.....and at the end of the tour you are taken to the top where there are spectacular 360° views of the surrounding area.

James Griffin Pub

Award winning Tradition Irish Pub, est. 1904 . "There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven't yet met."

Called into the bar for a drink. On entering it was like going back in time. The place was olde world. On further inspection I found that the rear of the building openened out to a modern place. People very friendly. We spoke to the bar maid can't spell her name who was lovely and very helpful. Would recommend this place for a good time. Live music after 6.30. A great selection of whiskeys and gins.

River Boyne

Reviewed By VASAVVYTRVLR - Springfield, United States

The many views and lovely parkland along the River Boyne, highlighted by grazing sheep and several cute donkeys made strolling along the river and visiting the lush gardens a real treat. Staying at Highfield House B&B with its grand country house style appearance graced with colorful manicured flower displays overlooking the Boyne River across the road made it irresistable to trot down the driveway and cross to the riverside for a stroll through the parks and gardens before crossing the bridge to go down into Trim town center for dinner. What a wonderful way to get over initial jetlag in the verdant green countryside of Ireland by enjoying such a lovely small town on the River Boyne.

St. Patrick's Church

Reviewed By patmW8029MS - Dublin, Ireland

Coming into Trim you will have a lot of magnificent heritage sights to behold. St. John's Castle, St. Mary's Abbey, and then St. Patrick's Church comes into view with its very prominent high steeple. Settled in a beautiful landscaped space to the rear there is a lovely grotto which commands your attention. Then as you enter the church you will be welcomed by a columned interior with striking wood work on the ceiling, and an impressive organ stands tall as you look back towards the door you entered. The Stations of the Cross are beautifully coloured and detailed, plus the stained glass windows with sunlight highlighting their coloured glass and perfect imagery. The mosaic work at the back of the altar is exquisite … its brightened by the gold contained in its Celtic designs. You come out smiling at the beauty of the craftmanship you left behind.
