Pebble Hill Plantation is an estate of 3,000 acres located in Thomasville, Georgia. With two distinct eras, Pebble Hill Plantation is rich in its history and its beauty. Established in the 1820's by Thomas Jefferson Johnson, it survived the Civil War and Reconstruction. Johnson's daughter Julia Ann Mitchell continued to own the historic Pebble Hill until the 1890's. Pebble Hill's modern history begins with its acquisition by Howard Melville Hanna from Cleveland, Ohio in 1896. At that time Thomasville had become a resort area frequented by northern visitors. Hanna's daughter, Kate Hanna Ireland Harvey was given Pebble Hill in 1901 by her father. She enjoyed the site as a winter home and shooting plantation and developed Pebble Hill as it is today. After Mrs. Harvey's death in 1936, the property passed to her daughter, Elisabeth Ireland Poe, who died in 1978. Through her generosity, a private foundation was established so her beloved Pebble Hill could be enjoyed by the public.
Wonderful tour of the house, friendly docents and beautiful grounds for this spring day! Flowers blooming and the bees pollenating - not a better way to enjoy a day in the outskirts of Thomasville.

Victorian period house built in 1885 by Mr. Charles Lapham. House has Queen Anne, Stick and Victorian period elements. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for those 18 and under.
Odd shaped house with plenty of interesting and tragic stories. A great example of community effort to restore a jewel. It has 3 floors which you visit during your tour and no 2 rooms are alike. Highly recommended.

We have a lovely historic site of 3+ acres with eight historic buildings. Visitors can tour the buildings and grounds on their own or as part of a guided tour.
There are several interesting exhibits in the main building. A single lane bowling alley on the grounds, and many other interesting things to explore.

Unless I'm badly mistaken the Big Oak is on the first street east of Broad and a little north. Information indicated the tree is about 350 years old so seeing it is well worth the very short walk. The next street east is Dawson with some beautiful old homes that are also well worth seeing.

The Rose Garden is definitely a must-see. It's a peaceful stroll to enjoy the topiaries when the roses aren't blooming, and it's awash with color and delicious scent when they are blooming. The garden is home to myriad varieties of roses. Whether you are a gardener, a rose enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates a quiet stroll amongst the flowers, the Rise Garden is a lovely and peaceful spot.
