Issan Rum Distillery Agricultural Rum 100 % Sugarcanne juice Awarded at HKIWSC and Rhum Fest PARIS Free Tour of the distillery and pacefull tasting room
While taking a time out in Nong Khai, we look for out of the way places to explore. To our luck trip adviser pointed us to the right place. Easy to find using google maps, short drive from the river walk. Arriving from the dirt road you see the naturally enhanced landscape, empeckable views of a natural pond. Shaded areas with cosey sitting areas. Lek the Host, 0wner and distiller greeted us with a smile. First offering was a great cup of freashly ground bean coffee. Next came the famous Issan Rum, we were not disappointed. With the friendly company of another guest from France (living in Thailand 21 years) the mid-morning was a treat. Highly Recommend a visit on your trip to Nong Khai.

There's been a lot written about this place and no wonder. I had prepared by reading the story of the monk who designed and worked on it building up followers and community support. The result is about 200 statues that give an original perspective on Buddhism, Hinduism and life. The great mother features also. The statues are sometimes humourous, reverential, philisophical or practical. Some teach a lesson. For instance near the entry is an elephant pressing forward with about 100 small dogs yapping at him. The lesson don't lose your purpose by listening to gossip and negativity. A cartoon in stone. The long inscriptions are all in Thai so maybe a Thai friend can translate for you or read in advance for a deeper understanding. Enter the eternal mother's womb and receive a panaroma of couplehood and parenthood. Stunning, entertaining, thought-provoking, calming and spiritual. How's that for a package? A modest 40 baht entry for non-Thais who pay 10 baht. I'd gladly pay 400 baht same as a national park. I'm sure it just pays for upkeep and gardening.

An excellent user-friendly aquarium, that is compact in size and, curious in its personality. A happy place, where one can truly get 'up close and personal', with a variety of aquatic animals, large and small and, at a comfortable eye level, at an easy pace. There is ample parking, spacious, smooth movement throughout the facility, plus heaps of; observation, discussion, educational and photo opportunities, all along the way. In my opinion, the Nong Khai Aquarium is one of the area's longest standing and premier tourist attractions (see my YouTube), well worth the short drive out of the city centre to experience its diverse wonders.

Beautiful temple where you can see reclining Buddha statue, and participate in a holy religious ceremony. Very interesting to see the architecture. The temple is located in a big area in front of Grand Palace. To reach this temple, you need to take BTS to Saphan Taksin station, and continue with hop hop boat (first buy the ticket of THB 60.00 per way) to reach Wat Arun. From Wat Arun, you need to buy another boat ticket of THB 4.00. The entrance fee to this temple is THB 200.00.
