Explore George Mason’s nation-shaping ideas at The Home of American Rights. Learn what motivated him to craft the 1776 Virginia Declaration of Rights and how his ideas inspired the nation. Tour the historic Mason-family home, hike scenic trails to the Potomac River, and discover George Mason's lasting legacy.
What a relief to get to a plantation that doesn't have crowd control lines and controlled access. We never heard of the place before we went and yet found it well worth the trip. George Mason was another of those founding fathers who was passionate for liberty, especially from the government. The house is unassuming from the outside (relatively) and the inside is well worth the tour. What a contrast to Monticello, as this place was far more liveable! We enjoyed the liberty of strolling the grounds, the quiet beauty of the view. Go, even just to learn about George Mason, a dedicated father, a founding father, the champion of individual liberty.

The hiking trails are fabulous, very well-maintained and clear of debris. The maps are laid out very well and there is signage posted to help you understand which way you are heading. Everything is very easy to follow. The trails have benches throughout so you can stop and simply enjoy nature. There are sections of boardwalk as well as steps in certain areas to make the trail more accessible. There are many other features in the park as well: a nice visitor center, boat launch, beach area, playground, picnic sites, and more.

We have been coming here for a couple of years. Its truly a favorite of ours. Wait staff are very friendly and helpful. We bring our dog, and wait staff are as welcoming of him as they are of us. Beer is very good, with nice seasonal choices as well as favorite standards. They have a variety of choices of beer styles, although thier IPAs are my go-to. Nice setting, and a rotatingchoice of food trucks -- all great and nicely priced

Met a friend for a round of golf on a top 18 hole course, then hiked and went down to the Potomac River. Located on historic Mason Neck in Lorton VA, this park has everything, including Bald Eagles! Great for outdoor recreation and a Pirate themed pool for the kids in the summer! Four other nearby parks and historic sites too. Make a weekend out of it!
