The Quarry

For what is in essence the town park to be one of the highest rated attractions for any town on Trip Advisor it must be something special, but in this case it is. The Quarry, where Percy Thrower was Parks Superintendent for nearly thirty years, is a superb open space which not only contains the excellent Dingle garden, but the beautiful rows of Lime trees that form a central avenue between the Hercules statue and Percy Throwers house, the Quarry lodge, with the excellent St Chads Church as a back drop, and also line the River Severn walkway from the Porthill footbridge all the way to the Greyfriars footbridge. The Dingle is truly superb and all I can say is do not to miss this and walk the wonderful Lime paths when you visit Shrewsbury.

Ellesmere Canal

Lovely canal to walk along. At the Ellesmere end there is a sculpture trail. Scenery changes every 10 minutes. Although it is a level walk it is not a sealed towpath so can get a little muddy

Whitchurch and Grindley Brook

Reviewed By whenmouthdesign - Auckland, New Zealand

Ii pre-Covid times , we were on the Llangollen canal heading away from Whitchurch, when we came across this staircase of three locks. Lovely bit of engineering, lots of interesting little construction features and details. There was a very helpful volounteer on hand to assist us through the locks. Magic. On the way back we had to climb the locks again and this time stopped off for a light lunch at the wee cafe. Very nice, sitting out in the sun, watching other boats go through.

Alderford Lake

Recently visited for a walk with my husband and Labrador. I have specific allergies and spoke to a very helpful young lady called Alice who was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Food was to a high standard but service was excellent. Will definitely revisit with friends. PPE and COVID restrictions were clear and helpful, no concerns and nice to get out
