Uttarakhand (English: /ˌʊtəˈrɑːkʌnd/), officially the State of Uttarakhand (Uttarākhaṇḍ Rājya), formerly known as Uttaranchal, is a state in the northern part of India. It is often referred to as the Devbhumi (literally "Land of the Gods") due to many Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres found throughout the state. Uttarakhand is known for the natural environment of the Himalayas, the Bhabhar and the Terai. On 9 November 2000, Uttarakhand became the 27th state of the Republic of India, being created from the Himalayan and adjoining northwestern districts of Uttar Pradesh. It borders Tibet to the north; the Province No. 7 of Nepal to the east; and the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh to the south and Himachal Pradesh to the west and north-west as well as Haryana on its south-western corner. The state is divided into two divisions, Garhwal and Kumaon, with a total of 13 districts. The interim capital of Uttarakhand is Dehradun, the largest city of the state, which is a railhead. The High Court of the state is located in Nainital.

We had a magical experience at the zoo . its a must visit If you are visiting nainital with kids. Its a small zoo but you get to see good number of animals. We visited in October and were greeted by cool and misty weather even at noon time due to the heights which added to the charm. Be prepared to walk a lot inside the zoo as it is built on a hill. There is a paid shuttle service from the base of the hill till the zoo gate and I would strongly recommend that you take it especially if you are traveling with kids. Also, I would not recommend it for people over sixty years due to the elevation.

Location: - Entrance situated at the end of Mall road (Main high street of Nainital City) Commute: - One can walk uphill of 2 kms for main entrance - One can hire an auto running exclusively on the Zoo route (Inexpensive) Zoo: - Surprisingly I found it to be at par of any mini zoo Internationally - Very neat and clean - Ticket system also pretty organised - Wide variety of animals, birds and other elements one finds in a zoo - Seems the authorities take good care of the wild life as were healthy beings - Merchandise availability to take back souvenirs - Lots of vantage points for a good click and memories Minuses - Be ready to trek up hill inside the zoo as well as its a hilly terrain - No good Eateries (But on Mall road ample of options available at 2 kms) Happy journey!

This is the renovated version of the famous Maalsi Deer Park which was a popular spot in Dehradun and adjoining regions. They kept varieties of Himalayan Deer and a lot of other birds and animals. Now they have made it a zoo. A lot of new birds and animals have been added, that are new for the region and though small its a nice place for families to visit. Children will love it too especially a small park that's there to play in. The 3D theatre is a decent attraction for kids and adults alike. The whole thing comes under one ticket which costs 80.The length of the movie is 30. They'll provide the 3D class. The movie is about the life of dinosaur. Especially kids will love it.The best part I think it's the Aviary. Very Beautiful birds are kept here. Though I was worried to see the Macaws in open air cages, I wonder how they would survive the Himalayan winters. The aquarium is moderate.
