Punta Culebra Nature Center (PCNC) is a non-profit initiative of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute that offers visitors an open-air experience focused primarily on tropical sciences and education, research and interpretation of tropical ecosystems.
The Punta Culebra Nature Centre is surprisingly quiet. Personally it has been one of my favourite things to do in Panama City and costs just $7 for general admission. Within the Centre they have touch pools in which you can touch star fish, sea cucumbers and fish, an aquarium, a frog exhibit and sea turtles. I thoroughly enjoyed the frog exhibit which was informative and remarkable to see such diversity and incredible colours. To finish you can walk through the natural forest in which I saw 5 sloths and a few giant iguanas.

Featuring a small zoo and paved trails, this tropical botanical garden features Panama's national bird, the Harpy Eagle.
The park itself was very well maintained even though there are a few sections where the funding obviously isn't enough to take care of it (like the stonebridge and fountain area). The playgrounds must be a big attraction for local families but the place was almost empty when we visited. Access is only possible with advance reservation. Some of the animal enclosures were in dire need of upgrades, others had a facelift already. As foreigners we enjoyed the diversity of the flora. The blooming canon ball trees, flame trees, le flamboyant, guayacan, cocoa and so many more were a absolute highlites of the visit. We also saw quite a few agoutis, one with babies, which were fun to watch.

If you're used to the zoos in our backyard, stop by this beautiful nature-surrounded attraction while at El Valle in Anton, Panama. Quite a different experience with a good variety in a setting that is peaceful and entertaining. Clean bathrooms. Good value.
