The Lake District Wildlife Park

A walk on the wild side just a 10 minute drive from Keswick. With the backdrop of the Skiddaw massif the emphasis is very much on conservation, education and engaging with visitors - our Keepers are keen to talk and enjoy passing on their knowledge and enthusiasm. Wander around our beautiful 24 acre parkland and see over 100 species. The magical Bird of Prey flying displays have been a regular feature since the park opened and we have gathered an eclectic mix of over 100 species from Anaconda to Zebra. The Granddad of the park is Brian the Lar Gibbon - he is the oldest in Europe and has pride of place in the centre of the park where he and his family can be seen swinging from the massive Oak tree. We are members of BIAZA and over the years we have successfully worked with Zoo stud books to breed species including Lynx, Asian Fishing Cats and Ring Tailed Lemurs to name just three.

We had a fantastic few hours here- could have done with more time actually, as so much to do and see. Setting is lovely. The animal talks were very informative. We absolutely loved the Lynx twins- such beautiful animals, never seen them up close before. Their enclosure is really and justly for them, plenty of undergrowth and hiding places as they are shy, but the keeper feeds them near the fence so they can be looked at. Wonderful birds of prey display- very informative, and funny, the keeper kept everyone entertained and the birds were swooping over our heads. You can tell their handler loves these birds. Great play area for older children, agree could be more for smaller ones but there is soft play near the reptile enclosure. Loved the meerkats. Good shop. Cafe extremely busy, and food okay. Highly recommend. Best on a dry day as everything outside except for reptiles.

Lovely place to visit. Staff are very friendly. Although a small zoo, the range of animals is very interesting. The snow leopards, meerkats, fruit bats, etc. are great and the smaller animals including the busy ants working away, mammals and reptiles are fascinating. The cafe is really good too with a range of food and excellent service but above all there is a great sense of how much the staff really care about the animals and visitors. We spent a lovely couple of hours there with family. Its been there for many years and the team who run it should be congratulated on this gem of a zoo.

We really enjoyed our visit around the Aquarium, lots to see. Great value for money, markers for the direction we needed to go which was great and hand sanitiser everywhere. I enjoyed this so much better than the sea life centre. I would highly recommend a visit aswell as a ride on the steam train.
