Luangwa Safari House

The South Luangwa National Park marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, one of the last remaining unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa. It is through this that the great meandering Luangwa river runs, with its ox bow lagoons, riverine supported woodlands and large plains, all of which play host to huge concentrations of game including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo and over 450 species of birds. Designed by Neil Rocher this impressive private house sits gracefully on the edge of a lagoon system frequented by large herds of elephants, impalas, giraffes and countless other species which use the lagoon as a source of water and food throughout the year. All of which is magnificently set off by the back drop of the Chindeni Hills. During the dry season lunch can be had on the raised deck surrounded by up to 80 elephants splashing around and enjoying the cool water. Luangwa House has been designed to assault the senses from the minute you arrive, a strong castle like structure looms up in front of you, then and as you enter through the enormous pivoting door, light and grace as the entire front of the house is open to wilderness. The four double rooms each subtly but differently decorated to mimic the elements – water, earth, wind and fire encompass the feeling of bringing nature into the house. This magnificent private house is the ultimate in luxury and the perfect getaway for families (children over seven) or groups of friends seeking an indulgent and private break. The magnificent structure of Luangwa House hangs between twenty-five enormous leadwood poles – this silvery weathered wood embodies the powerful yet elegant nature of the house. Upon entering through the huge pivoting door you are welcomed by a large airy main area, the front of which is completely open affording incredible views of the landscape and countless animals as they stroll past the house. This room, the ceiling of which reaches up to twelve meters in height, is dominated by enticing sofas, two floating staircases on either side leading to the upstairs bedrooms and a large wrought iron and marble dining table. The open front of the main area leads on to a tiled terrace with a refreshing plunge pool on one side and a decked walkway through the ebony trees on the other. Each of the spacious rooms are individual in style and have their own en-suite bathroom and private verandah area for you to enjoy the tranquility of Zambia. During your stay with us at Luangwa House you will be looked after by our team dedicated solely to you. Your private guide who will tailor each and every activity around your personal preferences and requirements, whilst the chef and house manager will ensure that everything is as you want it for when you are back in the house. The Luangwa Safari House is extraordinary - large and powerful, this castle like house gives you space, luxury and comfort with nature on your doorstep.

Beautiful property and great service.

A beautiful property overlooking a tributary of the Luangwa river, we enjoyed sitting on the deck or on our balcony and viewing the wildlife and birds which passed by Luangwa house. This included hippos, elephants, impala. The team led by Obi served us wonderfully well and it’s a property I would highly recommend.

Nyala Lodge

African time

Reviewed By LuluSEQueensland

I stayed here with my husband and 2 sons while on a Perigrine tour of Zambia and Botswanna. We arrived at the Bushfront quite frazzled after being fleeced at the airport for $180 US for entry into Zambia for 2 days. We were quite disappointed in the standard of accommodation of our family room. The room was very old and very basic. The family room doesn't have the quirky waterfall bathroom thet the standard chalets have. The odd shaped area is evenly divided into two rooms, one with a toilet and free standing hand basin and the other half a bath and shower. It was very annoying having to go into the toilet to use the wash basin. There was no benches or shelves to put anything on or hooks for hanging towels. The only amenities provided were soap and toilet paper. The water in the shower was only warm and there was very little pressure. The service was typical Africain, slow and unhelpful. The food in the resturant was quite good but the menu was very limited and the availably of certain dishes varied by the hour. One minute chicken burgers were off then the next hour there were back on. The food also took an incredible amount of time to come and twice we were still waiting for food when our pickups came for excursions. The first time they packed the food up for us and we ate it on the run and the next time we just told the pickup to come back because he wasn't actually expected until the next day. They kept asking us hours before mealtimes whether we would be dining in the restaurant and we began to wonder whether they wanted us to preorder our meals so that they could have them ready instead of us waiting neally an hour to prepare them even though we were the only people there. The lodge is a couple of kms out of town and we were quoted $10 for a taxi. On our departure the Eftpos was working and we had not US dollars left to settle our bill but the staff didn't attempt to offer any solutions just sat there looking at us. They couldn't do a manual voucher or ring for a phone authorization. In the end another Australian guest exchanged Australian dollars for US dollars so that we could settle our bill. Australians beware our dollars are not accepted anywhere in Zambia. You must have US cash. Credit cards are also unreliable as the system goes down regularly and the ATM machines were not working every time we tried them. Certainly this place is not worth the $220 US they want per night for the family room.

Borrowdale Inn

A wonderful Place-on the learning curve

Reviewed By Milton S

We visited the place as a family from 13th to 14th May 2016. Checked in at about 18hrs. Welcomed by wonderful receptionist Catherine and Debby who took us around and made us feel at home. The place has very beautiful surroundings, nice loans and they have maintained some indigenous trees. The atmosphere is idea for relaxing. We wished we stayed longer. We had dinner in a romantic arrangement and the hotel waiter Nyambe was very good at arranging the dinner table and he saved us very well. All the way from Dinner to breakfast and Lunch, their meals were excellent. They are on a learning curve though in the Hospitality industry. This is a place to be when you want to relax in chingola.

Fallsway Villas

Very disappointing and TERRIBLE Management

Reviewed By alexfi24

The photos are misleading. Only one of the villas is that nice, new white villa. The majority of them are older, dark, and have old, unpleasant furniture. The management of Fallsway Villas is totally corrupt and incompetent. We reserved a villa online, using Hotels.com, for what seemed like a fair and good rate. All was fine with our reservation and two weeks before our trip, I emailed the property to confirm transport from the airport (which it said on Hotels.com was included) and the reservation. It took three emails to the property for the manager to respond and when he did he claimed he never received the reservation from Hotels.com. I contacted Hotels.com who then contacted him and he only then confirmed the reservation. But he said he wouldn't accept the reservation because he wanted a higher rate. He wouldn't budge and Hotels.com did little to resolve the situation other than offer to try to find us another accommodation. The manager was horrid and claimed that Hotels.com had made a mistake in the rate they posted on their website. But Hotels.com confirmed to us that the rate they posted is the rate in their contract with Fallsway Villas. It sounded like the Manager was just trying to get a higher rate on the villa. Terribly corrupt and poorly managed! We do not recommend this site. Go check-out Airbnb for Lusaka, which is growing by the day. Or consider one of the hotels, which are more fairly and professionally managed.
