Touching Belgium on its west and just a few miles from Germany to the east, Maastricht is the capital of Holland’s southernmost region, Limburg. A town rich in history and culture, Maastricht boasts two wonderful town squares: Vrijthof, with Sint-Servaas Church, Sint-Jan's Cathedral and many bars, cafes and restaurants; and Markt, home to the town hall and, on Wednesday and Friday mornings, a fantastic vendor market. The city’s Vestigingswerken, or old town fortifications, are another big draw.

Amazing experience! This was the first time Andre Rieu held a Christmas Concert in his hometown of Maastricht. The MECC is a massive place and it was extravagantly decorated for the festive season. Beautiful lights everywhere - Christmas scenes with trees and snow. People dressed in 19th century costumes walking and mingling among the crowd and musicians playing Christmas carols. The auditorium was magnificently decorated and seating was very well planned. Besides the large screens on either side of the stage, the projections throughout the concert were truly magical. There were also two areas for ice skaters who performed during some of the orchestra's tunes. At one point, large amounts of artificial snow rained on us from the ceiling and it felt quite surreal - a veritable winter wonderland! Another item ticked off my Bucket List :)
