Basking in its 300 days of sunshine, Lake Tahoe is a haven for outdoor fun in every season. Swimming, kayaking and windsurfing are popular in the summer months, while epic snowfall makes for spectacular skiing in winter. For those who prefer indoor fun, there's plenty of that in Tahoe, too. With 24-hour casinos and a flashy nightlife scene, the area has a tangible Vegas vibe. A sprinkle of bling, if you will. Not surprising, since Lake Tahoe straddles the border between California and Nevada.

This was the cheapest motel we could find in the Lake Tahoe area, and it turned out to be a nice place, with excellent free coffee, a very good shower, and a fine heating system. The weekend manager, Ken, was friendly and helpful. I prefer this motel to Holiday Inn because it's a small place with no lobby and no elevators, so it's very safe from Covid. At Holiday Inn, many people walk around in the lobby and ride the elevators without masks. I rented an extra fold-out bed for myself, and was very comfortable. However, my wife and others in my party (we rented 3 rooms for 2 nights) told me their beds were uncomfortable, and either lumpy or itchy. Also, the beds squeaked quite loudly when people moved around. Another downer: the floors were not clean, and one of our rooms had no microwave. I would stay at this place again, but my wife said she would not.

Black Bear Lodge is a unique lodging experience in the heart of South Lake Tahoe - with new owners as of April 2017. On the one acre property there are five Lodge rooms in the main building and four spacious cabins. Each room has a gas fireplace and king bed. The cabins also have kitchenettes with a full size fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee maker. The property is ideally located 0.5 miles from Lake Tahoe, 1 mile to Heavenly Mountain’s Cal Base and walking distance to some of the best restaurants in town. The front desk has many functions, also serving as the wine bar and breakfast café. The café opened in August 2018 and is run by Dragonfly Bagel Co – serving up handmade bagels and breakfast sandwiches Thursday through Sunday.
It's everything you want. Adorable Tahoe chic. Perfect quiet cabin. Kind people. Beautiful lodge with games and a big fireplace. Incredible big soft beds with fluffy pillows and softest sheets. Fireplace. Quiet. Snow outside. Pour over coffee. We will be back many, many times.

I have been staying here, during ski season, for 4 years. The room furnishings are VERY dated. But where else do you get HBO,in room coffee service, refer, bath accessories, free WiFi and microwave. This year they put in new towels and sheets. Ed, the proprinter, is trying to slowly upgrade and repair the rooms. He has a way to go but he is trying. This is a basic motel with a good location. I recommend CB Pizza next to motel for a reasonable priced good meal.

We pulled in to check in and NO one was there office locked. We call and waited out side in dark 2 females. It was very unsafe. Guy finally comes and I ask for managers name and number and calmly mentioned it was unprofessional and unsafe for us to be locked out and have no one there. He refused to give me any information begins to scream. He tells us he is giving us a full refund and to leave. We were then left again two females in the dark locked out and without a room. Very unprofessional and awful experience. Hotel looked awful from outside and people were rude.

Major Issues, don't stay here. 1. One week prior to check-in, staff emailed me that their system wasn't working with VRBO, and I needed to cancel my original reservation and book a new reservation with them instead. Very suspicious. 2. Upon arrival, we were assigned different rooms than we booked, customer rep (not onsite) not helpful in sorting it out. Door to first room had visible damage (see below) and after 30 minutes on hold, promising manager was onsite, nobody ever showed up. 3. Due to door damage, we did not feel safe staying at the location. Nobody onsite also led to this issue. Management said we were outside cancellation policy (terrible customer service) and would not be refunding us. Still waiting to hear back from claims with VRBO etc. Overall, the property is a converted Motel and they have lots of issues inside and out. I would NEVER suggest anyone stay here, under any circumstances. Manager says he recorded our conversation and will be fighting me for any customer service issue I submit. To me that says a lot.
