With a beautiful seafront location in the picturesque Ponta do Sol, Enotel Sunset Bay offers 69 rooms and a series of facilities for an unforgettable stay. Relax on the sands and soak your feet in the sea, practice your jogging or hiking amidst beautiful scenery or just enjoy an invigorating swim in our heated indoor pool. Just 40 minutes from the airport, nestled between two rocky mountains and lit by the sunny streets of Ponta do Sol, this is the ideal hotel for those seeking comfort in Madeira.
We loved our week's stay here, on a bed and breakfast basis. Everything was spotlessly clean, and everyone was required to wear masks, which meant it felt really safe. Large modern room, with a very comfy bed and nice seating area for relaxing. In the bathroom, there was a large walk-in shower, hairdryer and good quality toiletries. Daily maid service. The hotel is directly opposite the sea, and all rooms have a sea view (most with balconies), giving great views of the sunsets. It was also really quiet - we requested a top floor room. The selection at breakfast was amazing, with everything you could possibly imagine! It was such a treat to have buffet-style again, too (post Covid). From the cooked options, to all the different types of breads, cheeses, fresh fruits, yoghurts, juices, pancakes made to order... the list goes on! Several previous reviewers had commented on the poor coffee - there are now new machines and it was excellent. Also, although no there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room - which is a little odd in a 4-star hotel - you can request a free kettle from reception, borrow a couple of cups from the dining room and then make your own coffee in your room. There is an indoor swimming pool (just by reception), and free pool towels are provided in the room. I'd say you'd definitely need/want a car if you stay here - we picked up one at the airport (booked it in advance, with Insular car rental - again, highly recommended, with friendly service). We chose the location of Ponta Do Sol over Funchal as we wanted somewhere quieter and right by the sea. It also gave us easy road access to all other parts of the island as we knew we wanted to explore, yet Funchal was still only 30 minutes away by car. The hotel offers free underground parking, but if that is full, you can park for free in a nearby disused tunnel. There are a handful of restaurants within walking distance - the best one was definitely the one perched on top of the cliff... a perfect place to be at sunset. Half board at the hotel is also an option, and it's possible to opt for dinner on an ad-hoc basis - the menu changes daily and is displayed in the lift (17 euros per person). All in all, we had a wonderful week here - an excellent base from which to explore a beautiful island - and would highly recommend it.

This charming building is one of the few romantic buildings in Madeira and is therefore an important example of the archipelago's architectural heritage. The Palace and the attached chapel - Chapel of Santo Antonio, were built in the late 19th century with the purpose of being used as a summer home for the Zino family, taking advantage of the excellent climate of the area.
I recently stayed here for three nights in the Suite with the Sea View and had an amazing time! I'm always looking for unique places to stay outside of the usual hotel experience, and this inn hit the marks and more. First off, all of the staff members were incredible throughout our stay. Especially, when we had a flight issue, and had to return back to the inn for another night -- it was no problem for them, and we even were allowed to return back to our same room like we never left. The location of the hotel is about 20 minutes to Funchal, but with a rental car (and free parking at the inn) that was no trouble for us. It actually is nice to not stay in the bustling city. The suite itself was beautiful and clean. We had an incredible view outside our large windows of the cliffs, waterfalls, and ocean below. We really enjoyed sitting outside watching the sunset on our attached balcony with two chairs and a table. We LOVED our meals at the inn as well -- I can't imagine a better view or atmosphere on the island to eat at! The views on the patio were incredible. The included breakfast was plenty, with pastries, bread, eggs to order, etc. We had dinner two nights at the hotel, which was also fantastic, with plenty of variety and very reasonably priced. But, the best part for us was the tea time! It was priced well for two people, and included a huge spread of desserts, breads, and sandwiches. I would definitely recommend at least doing it once during your stay. Overall, an incredible, classy, and beautiful inn. We can't wait to return someday soon!

This unique rural Quinta hotel in Madeira, is an undeniable landmark in the village of Ponta do sol. Perched on top of a mountain shoulder, it boasts splendid views over the deep blue ocean and over the lush green mountainous landscape. The quality, elegance and comfort of the interiors, allied to the refreshing rural charm of the surrounding is an unforgettable experience, enhanced by the homey flair brought by the personalised service. Features a wide living room, gardens, agro-biological orchards, and parking spaces. At close proximity to the Quinta, the guest can find a mini-market (30 m away) and a bus stop (500 m), while at about 4 km, in the centre of the village of Ponta do sol, one can find a pharmacy, a taxi rank, a health care centre, a shopping centre, a post office, banks with ATM, and restaurants. The airport is located at around 40 km.
Villa Alto was the perfect choice for my work-cation. The staff is absolutely incredible. Your room is cleaned daily, the managers are extremely helpful, and you have a private chef. Between the sweeping mountain & ocean views and the community aspect of staying at the hotel, this booking is a no-brainer for you. There is no wifi in the rooms to encourage meeting your fellow guests. I am from the US and I met people from multiple different countries. The breakfast in the dining room is absolutely to die for. The wide selection of items is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. In the summertime, you can enjoy a drink the pool. The sunsets here are also breath taking. I will be booking again!
