Homely feeling in a beautiful desert - Second to none

I didn’t get the w/e I planned for I got something better - the w/e I couldn’t plan for even if wanted to. Food - traditional home cooked food, not the excessive sugar / salt laden food of hotels but beautifully tasty Emirati food. For someone who dines out a lot, particularly Middle Eastern some of the food was still new to me. Location - it’s the empty quarter, it’s Liwa, if anyone has done their research than I think no further description is necessary. Surrounded by mikes of endless red, white and beige Sandy dunes and valleys. Absolutely beautiful. There are a number of swings about which are nice places to stop and relax and take I. The surroundings. “lobby” - there’s a beautiful fire place to sit in at night and appreciate the night sky you won’t get in the cities. Activities - their are falcons, constellation activity, camel feeding (adorable baby ones too), camel riding, dune experiences and a local fort and date factory experience. Would recommend all. Hospitality - second to none, the benefit of being an independent boutique owned by a local to the area and ran by an amazing hospitality; Salim and Brianne. We felt home from home, it felt like we spent the w/e with family, nothing was of limits and it was really nice to learn about the place, the history and some local / folk stories. Finishing touches - we celebrated our 2 yr and the touches weren’t something we usually get in a hotel that being a box of chocolates we got fireworks and a beautiful rose and pistachio cake; was fantastic. The only downside is I feel down for sharing this review because I want it to stay a hidden gem but I have to pay homage to the place and hosts. Will most certainly be back.

Liwa Hotel

LIWA hotel is stunningly perched on a majestic hilltop, overlooking Oasis of LIWA Mezairah on one side and the legendary empty quarter popularly known as ‘Rub Al Khali’ on the other. Rooms, suites and our villa are designed in a traditional fashion for maximum comfort, while the resort serves as a sweet reminder of LIWA’s beautiful history. The road journey leading Liwa Hotel is a splendid drive around two and half hour from the city of Abu Dhabi and around three and half hour from city of Dubai.

It’s quiet out here after the noise of Dubai!

Out of season ( we visited in February, and were the only ones there!), this hotel perched on a big g hill and from the rear has a super view of the never-ending dunes of the ‘empty quarter’, as this bottom corner of the UAE is called. It’s a pleasant enough hotel, although a bit tired in places, and may suffer from lack of maintenance in parts. The staff are pleasant and attentive, although the service can be a bit lacklustre compared to the bustle of a dubai hotel. If you’re here to chill, enjoy the silence and relax, then this is not bad. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, although it’s a bit a shame that the architect made them face the carpark at the front, and not the crescent gardens at the back. However I suspect that’s because it will get very hot in the summer on the balconies after March. Mezairaa is a little town from which you explore (by car), the other oasis’s, and take a trip up to the Moreeb dunes which is 30min drive away.
