We had initially booked at the sister hotel in a street facing room but had a free upgrade to an ocean facing room at the Lantern Boutique. We stayed for 5 nights and had the best time. The room had a great view, it was clean and spacious. There were also two adorable and friendly dogs that liked to hang out by the beach area of the hotel. The ocean wasn’t swimmable this time of year, but we were happy with the pool and there were other beaches a few minutes away that were safe for swimming. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, they arranged everything for us to go to Yala national park and even packed breakfast for us to take with since we had to leave really early. The restaurant and bar at the hotel were also really nice, we loved the Lantern breeze cocktails, hot butter calamari, and Sri Lankan breakfast. There are also lots of other nice restaurants and bars in walking distance. We had a very memorable experience and will definitely return next time we are in Sri Lanka!

The integrated boutique Ubuntu concept shares the same boutique spirit and feeling as the Lantern Hotel, creating a relaxed environment, tastefully appointed with private and communal areas for guests to chill out and relax or greet and meet people from all over the world. The 8 bedroom concept includes 4 courtyard rooms, with garden courtyards and outdoor showers suitable for all including couples and families with young children, and 4 ocean view rooms, exquisitely detailed spaces, which seamlessly connect the sky, ocean, and sand to the room.
We have just returned back from our stay in Sri Lanka. The last part of our trip was to Mirissa where we spent 4 nights at this hotel. The hotel were very professional from the start with our requests prior to arrival. We were happy to be given sea view rooms, which were amazing! The rooms were in the adjacent Beach Hut rather than in the main hotel which made it more intimate. The views from the room were amazing and the sound of the sea was so calming. The rooms were of a great size and definitely the most luxurious out of the hotels we stayed in whilst we were in Sri Lanka. We were greeted with fresh juice and pleasant staff. We were happy with our rooms and everything seemed to be nicely cleaned. We had no major gripes with anything with regards to the rooms or cleanliness. The beds were also really comfy. Wifi was really good and available in the rooms. The hotel is a bit further away from the main Mirissa beach but you can drive/get a tuk tuk and it does not take too long. You can also walk along the sandy beach which was clean - however beware the waves, the sea is not safe to swim in! The beach was deserted and this made it nice and peaceful. We were a bit disappointed that the hotel could not offer driver accommodation but they only have a small number of rooms. If they could provide this facility in future, it would be very useful for travellers. The layout of the hotel is nice - be aware there is no lift but the porters help with taking the luggage up. The staff were great, including the cleaner, who was amazing with his towel art!! It was always a surprise to see what new design he had created - absolutely wonderful. We loved the crocodile the best!!! We had great fun in the pool and the outside lounge area! There were some bugs in the pool but when we asked the staff to clean, they did so promptly. As someone who is prone to insect bites, I should just advise that I did receive a fair few mosquito bites in Mirissa and did spot some in the seating area/lobby. The restaurant is nice and again has beautiful views, especially in the morning. The breakfast itself was not bad - it is a la carte but is a bit samey for vegetarians, only offering mainly egg options or the Sri Lankan breakfast. We also had dinner one night which was not too bad but again not a lot of options for vegetarians. They have two restaurants offering the same fare - they organise a tuk tuk for you to travel between the two or it is about 10 minutes to walk. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and recommend it for anyone coming to Mirissa that is looking for a luxurious, relaxing stay! We felt at home!

Somewhere on an island, hanging off the azure coastline there is a place where tropical ease, luxe living and the thrill of chasing balmy waves for the perfect surf come together. We call it Villa Océane. It’s a luxury villa in one of Sri Lanka’s beloved southern surf hamlets- Turtle Point, Madiha, Mirissa. Southern Sri Lanka is the home to a culinary culture of mouthwatering seafood, a rich history evidenced with colonial forts, crafts and architecture, plus an unmistakable sense of island ease that takes hold of you through everything, including the air you breathe. Some say that Sri Lanka blesses certain soul. Villa Océane braids her days weaving in authentic island cuisine and a life philosophy built on surf, yoga and slow walks on the beach, perfected with a personal butler service that deepens the experience of lazy luxury.
- The 5-room hotel is located directly on the sea and within walking distance of some restaurants. Please note that the sea is rough and not suitable for swimming. Experienced surfers can go into the sea from the hotel. By tuktuk you can go to Weligama in 20 min, where there is a large swimming/beginner surfing beach. - The hotel rooms are tastefully decorated and very clean, with all the practicalities such as water, coffee/tea, fridge, safe, toiletries etc. - The staff is very friendly and helpful and we also had good food at the hotel. - The garden is not very big, but offers a beautiful sea view and has a nice pool. In short, a nice hotel to stay.
