Pulling up to Castello di Velona was like pulling up to a fairytale castle. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for anything better. The view is phenomenal, the pool is excellent, the rooms are cozy and the staff is so friendly. We loved dinner and breakfast here, as well. The only issue was regarding our Virtuoso perks but we believe that was on part of our travel agent. Make sure your agent books your stay accordingly if using one!

My boyfriend and I visited here to spend his 30th birthday after spending a few days of hustle and bustle in Rome. We arrived down the dusty road with acres of vineyards either side and the Relais itself is beautifully designed and the surroundings are even more beautiful. Our room was super spacious and well decorated. The hotel is boutique in the respect that it only has a small number of rooms, definitely not more than 15 and that made it really nice at breakfast/lunch/dinner as you could always be sure to have a space. The breakfast was an array of pastries, bread, meats, cheeses but you could also order eggs. There was a fantastic green juice too which was great to start the day with too. My other half LOVES coffee and was a massive fan of the cappuccinos, it’s Illy as the winery/vineyard is part of the group (yes they do more than just coffee as we came to learn.) During our stay we used our free session at the wellness/relaxation area which has a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and massage chair. After your free session you have to pay €30 per person per hour, which does feel a little excessive so we didn’t do it again. The pool is great as for a cold dip on a hot day or just to sit peacefully and take in the views. For my other half’s 30th, we did wine tasting in the Mastrojanni winery which was so special and the place is phenomenal and experience was so informative. We had a light lunch to accompany the wines and that was a great decision. “A light lunch” isn’t necessarily the type of light lunch you’d expect in England so be warned. The slow cooked beef with mash was so tender so I’m glad it wasn’t just a meats and cheese lunch after tasting that. My boyfriend wanted to increase his number of wines during the tasting and they let him with no issue. They also provided us with a special sparkling glass each as it was his birthday. We also had dinner on his birthday at the Relais and the seafood ravioli (I think that’s what it was) was the best pasta I had in Italy this time round and my boyfriend wanted us to order another one it was that good! Of course for his birthday they also put a card and small token gift in our room and ensured his dessert had a birthday candle in it. There’s so much I could stay about Relais Mastrojanni but the last thing I wanted to call out are the incredible employees here from the reception team to the restaurant team. They are so friendly and really went above and beyond to get us reservations and generally help us with anything that we needed from before arrival to the moment we left. We couldn’t have had such a hassle free holiday without them so thank you team!

After visiting the wonderful Abby, we noted this bar/restaurant at the junction. Luckily I managed to find a parking space among the cars and business trucks along the road. Entering, we were greeted by the barman and escorted to the half filled dining room and presented a la carte menus. An older waiter took our order and while we used their clean restrooms, the table was set with my small draft and soon our hot meals arrived. The Spaghetti Ragu and Ravioli(spinach/ricotta) with cherry tomatoes and Parmesan was delicious and filling but for 24 Euros(no water, no bread, but 1.5 Euro cover each), it was no bargain.
