Very Disturbing Stay
Reviewed By revjrvossMy wife and I stayed at the Brown Deer Holiday Inn Express May 23-26, 2022. On May 24, just before noon, while my wife was alone in our room, a stranger entered our room without knocking, without a verbal signal, and without hotel credentials at a time when my wife was only half dressed. When she stated, “What are you doing here? Get out of here!” he just stood there. My wife then ran past him into the bathroom and locked herself in, waiting for him to leave. When she felt it was safe to exit the bathroom, she called the front desk, explained what happened, and asked the hotel staff member to monitor the hallways so that it doesn’t happen to others. A supervisor came to the room, and when my wife explained what happened, the supervisor stated that the man who entered our room could be the man the hotel hired to do maintenance projects. She told my wife to put the “Do Not Disturb” sign on our door. She never offered an apology to my wife. I later learned that, over the prior day and on that day, 5 other people in our group experienced similar events with a person entering their room, one of which even had the “Do Not Disturb” sign displayed. Later that day I went to the front desk to speak with a manager, but was told that the manager, Rosa, was gone for the day. The next morning, I spoke with Rosa and demanded that the hotel personnel be properly trained and that the occupants of the 6 rooms who experienced this treatment be comped one day’s stay. Upon checking out of the hotel on May 26, I was informed that only my room and one other would be comped, and that I would receive a phone call later that day. I did receive that phone call, but was unable to take it. The next day I returned the phone call and spoke with Rosa. She informed me that Rena (another manager? the owner?) had authorized 4 of those entries by the hotel representative, so only 2 rooms would be comped at a rate not even covering one night’s stay. I replied that I was completely dissatisfied with this, that I was never asked by any hotel employee, “How can we make this right for you?” and that our group would never stay at this hotel again. In addition to the above, we also experienced the following: the pool was closed, the public restroom off the breakfast area was closed, none of the ice machines in the hotel worked, and my room’s HVAC stopped working after the first 24 hours. Needless to say, I did NOT request the services of the hotel’s maintenance department. If you decide to stay at this hotel, do so at your own risk. Keep your door double-locked.

Bad smell, rattling air conditioner and falling apart
Reviewed By 617JohnR617This is a lousy hotel, our room smells like industrial cleaner covering up some other smell we can’t quite identify. We had booked a king suite room and were given a room with two queens. If we’d known we’d be getting the old bait and switch we would have booked some place else. We have an air unit that would wake the dead, so we can’t even circulate fresh air into here.

Reviewed By chandler2010tycOn February 25, I received a call that brought me to this hotel, because my step-mom had 24 hours to live. I made a reservation for a king room for the weekend. Upon arrival I was told they didn't have anymore king rooms, but could put me in a double. I got to my first room 412 that had gum on the ceiling, in the chair and a huge bug of some sort smeared on the wall. I was then moved to room 420 I believe and that room had no heat. I was then moved for a third time to room 430, which would turnout to be ok. I asked the front desk if I could cancel my second night with no charge due to the inconvenience and was told she didn't think they would allow that. I also asked why they would allow me to reserve a king, knowing they were sold out, she advised a hold was not put on the room as the king rooms are the money makers. She never caller the manager because she advised of earlier issues and that manager's response was, why are you calling me, what do you want me to do. I was given the manager's name and told to contact corporate. I called corporate but was told that I needed to contact the manager on this site. I didn't want to call this manager due to what I was already told. I called the manager Monday, Feb 28, but he was gone for the day. I frequent Marriott's quite a bit and was highly disappointed that they allow things of this nature to happen. My loved one gained her wings!

Good, Except for One Thing
Reviewed By JasubarWe stayed here once before 6 or 7 years ago and the rooms have had a nice update since. Mattresses are very comfortable. However, there is one BIG problem: right over the bed is a smoke detector. Every second or so, it flashes a bright green LED. Then once or twice a minute, two of these lights come on and stay on for about two seconds. You will see these lights All. Night. Long. We encountered this same problem in a different IHG property once and they were able to contact the alarm vendor to get this remedied. I hope this Candlewood can do the same, because I can't stay here again otherwise.
