We are a 3rd generation UP business and your 4 season destination to adventure AuTrain, the UP, & Pictured Rocks! We have 26 rental cabins that all have full bathrooms, completely stocked kitchens, cable tv, internet, and the rustic charm to complete your stay UP North! The resort is located on the sandy North shire of AuTrain Lake, just 2 miles from Lake Superior! We have a beautiful swim beach with a sandy bottom and a swim raft, paddle boats, and sauna for use. For the fishermen and kayakers, we rent boats, pontoons, and canoes and kayaks! Come stay with us and Adventure Au Train!
We had an amazing stay at Northwoods Resort in #14 Buck cabin. The cabin was perfect for our family with enough room to spread out and very well equipped kitchen for all of our cooking needs. Erin, the property manager, was so friendly and you can tell she really cares about the guest staying there. I would have given a perfect rating except for the fact that there was a large group staying in multiple cabins at the resort that are lake front. Our cabin sat across the road so when we would go over to use the lake it felt like we were intruding on their party. They even had chairs sitting on the sidewalk leading to the resort’s dock. It made it very awkward.

We had never been to the UP so after researching places to fish I came across Au Train Lake. If you are looking for a fancy place this isn’t it. But if you are looking for a quiet cabin in a serene location this is it! We stayed in Cabin 4. It’s small and clean. There’s a full kitchen and a very comfortable bed. Carl and Amy are so down to earth and very helpful. It’s so peaceful and beautiful here. Can’t wait to go back!

We stayed for two nights in the Isle Royale cabin (the resort spells it incorrectly as Isle Royal, but whatever). The outside of the cabin is pretty rough looking, but the inside is ok. We found cobwebs all over the taxidermy bear rug and the old caribou and pheasant and some dead bugs on the kitchen counter by the stove. The fireplace has soot all over the bricks, and the grating was badly bent--we did not use it. The bed linens and bathrooms were clean. I surmise those areas are cleaned between visitors, but not sure about other areas. The TV area was dusty, and the counters in the kitchen by the stove were sticky. Parts of the inside of the cabin have been redone such as the bathroom, main bedroom and kitchen. The living room and other two bedrooms were pretty dark and old. My kids wanted to sleep in the living room since they were creeped out by the dark rooms. As for "being on the beach," we thought that was kind of misleading. We were on a cliff overlooking AuTrain Lake. Many trees block most of the view from the cabin. There is no hearing the water. If you want to access the beach, you have to go down the cliff via some switchbacks. The beach is really just a docking area for their rental boats and kayaks and such. I didn't let my kids play down there as it was pretty gross with lake muck on the sandy parts. We also thought about fishing from the dock, but even at the end of the dock, it was only 2-2.5 feet of water. It was an ok stay, but not luxurious. I thought we were actually going to have beachfront access right at the cabin. We paid more than we would have liked for what we actually got. Nice interaction with owner. Campers seemed to be having a good time. But we didn't see any of them down at the lake, either. The two pics below were the best ones from the place. I had to walk quite a way past our cabin to get the moon pic.

This is not our typical campground, your neighbors are very close and there are a lot of them in the tent site we had. I would still recommend it. The facilities were very nice, so was the staff. The beach across the street was wonderful! The yurts, tepees and safari tents looked like they would have been fun to use!

Located at the south end of AuTrain Lake, this campground is favored by anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. The quiet setting is great for family trips. Visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities year-round, all less than a days drive from major urban areas of Michigan and Wisconsin.
I’ve stayed at multiple campgrounds before and never encountered such horrible staff and management until I stayed here. Au Train Campground employees are incredibly rude and disrespectful to guests. They do not have clean areas and their bathrooms are filthy. They are not Covid-19 safe. Hope one day they will change.
