The Outlaw Brewing Company

I imagine that they get busy in the summer, but we had a great visit on a cold winter day. A few others were there when we stopped in. The staff is very friendly and they have a great variety of beer for such a small place. We really enjoyed the visit and look forward to another stop next time we are in the area.

Pisgah State Park

Reviewed By TrainManDan10 - Keene, United States

Though having been in New Hampshire for three years, my wife and I and Golden Retriever were taking our first visit to this state park, New Hampshire's largest. Coming from Keene, NH, we traveled west on Rt 9 and south on Rt 63, a National Scenic Byway. We took a left at the first park sign onto Horseshoe Road, leading to the Old Chesterfield Road trailhead, where we secured a park map and read the park rules. "No ATVs Allowed", which suited us well. This trail was certainly the "one less traveled". We met only one other party. [Later, we road south on Rt 63 and passed by another park entrance, where cars were spilling over the parking lot and along the highway.] Our trail was wide, well maintained, and led down and then up a deep, peaceful, woods with singing birds. As part of the park's "habitat diversity" program, they clear cut two sections of woods and created "Oldfield Habitats". While neither a park sign on Rt 63 nor a park map mentioned the following historic landmark, just before the trailhead, beside the parking lot, was the granite foundation of the birthplace of Harlan Fiske Stone, Dean of Columbia Law School, US Attorney General, US Associate Supreme Court Justice, and US Chief Supreme Court Justice. As luck would have it, I struck up a conversation with a gentleman who was also keen to photograph the foundations and had lived just down the road in a 1800's house in 1980. He went to school with the grandson of Justice Stone at Princeton University. In summary, if you desire a quiet walk in the woods, without ATVs, and wish to visit a little publicized birthplace of a famous American, the Old Chesterfield Trail is perfect for you.
