Walking along the ridge line from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock is one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring walks I have completed; the scenery here dwarfs that of the Lake District, and most places you're able to walk in the UK. Riding the fernicular at 110% is also an incredible experience - what a superb feat of engineering. From there, we took the chairlift to Klingenstock and then began our walk along the ridge line. You can walk the other way but this way is arguably the more challenging and more rewarding - the view before us was much better than that behind us. It's a truly breathtaking and wonderful view but it does come with a hefty price tag - the fernicular and access to the chair lifts aren't cheap. Take your own lunch to save some pennies!

For me, the barrel-shaped carriage is the highlight but not the steepness. The design of these bright yellow carriages is so cool. They look like a caterpillar or a multi-cylinder whistle but certainly not like a funicular. The carriages rotate to maintain a level floor surface for passengers. So I didn’t feel the inclination at all inside the carriage. We took this caterpillar-like funicular to Stoos where we changed to take a ski lift reaching Klingenstock. From there we started the hike for two hours along the mountain range to reach Fronalstock. The scenery en route was beautiful. On the left is Lake Lucerne and on the right is Grosser Mythen (1898m) and Kleiner Mythen (1810m). The countless colourful wild flowers along the track further made the hike relaxing and enjoyable.
