The Day Mark

Reviewed By RebeccaS5985

Situated out on the Eastern headland of St Martin's, Isles of Scilly, this landmark stands out from neighbouring islands. Well worth the walk up from the Quay if visiting on a boat trip. On a clear day you can see Cornwall and gannets diving off-shore. The colours of heather and gorse change through the seasons setting off the Day Mark as a beacon to head for as you walk around the island's varied coastline.

I don't normally paddle in my everyday life back on the mainland and I have never shown an interest. That was before I heard about St. Martin's Watersports. Having really enjoyed their sister organisation called Scilly Seal Snorkelling for the past three years, I decided to give this a go and I am so glad that I did! It was really easy to be able to explore the uninhabited islands not far from the beautiful Par beach. In the two hours that I decided to pay for, I was able to paddle to two of them and back without disembarking - something that I plan to do when I return next year. This was excellent value for money, far cheaper than a paddle boat ride that I went on near my local area a few weeks ago and far more enjoyable! As a real bonus, a few seals swam up to pop their heads out of the water and say hello! I highly recommend that you get out of your comfort zone and experience this, you won't regret it.

St Martin's Vineyard

A vineyard offering self-guided tours and wine tastings. Self guided tours begin at our visitor centre and take you through the site and up to the top field with panoramic views out over the Eastern Isles before returning returning for al fresco wine tasting in front of the winery. The nine Vine Stops will introduce the site, the vines, the wine making techniques and the unique aspects of the site as well as some of the fauna and flora which call this vineyard their home. The wine tasting is an opportunity to try our still white and rose wines, created from the grapes you will have seen on your tour. There is the opportunity to buy the wine as well as our vineyard apple juice and other local produce at the end of your tour. Children and well behaved dogs welcome!

Thank you to Holly and her husband for allowing us to wander though the vineyard, the self guided tour was incredibly informative, topped off by being able to taste all their wines accompanied by some helpful tasting notes.
