This clean, serene lake is the easternmost of New York's Finger Lakes.
Skaneateles is a beautiful small town with a wonderful lake that is clear and clean enough for swimming! We did not see any showers there. Public bathroom iare about 1 1/2-2 blocks away. If you want to stay dry, you can take the boat tour instead!
Dogs are not allowed on the grass, but I saw many locals bring their dogs anyway.

We stopped here to enjoy a glass of wine on a beautiful afternoon. What an awesome location on a hillside over looking one of our most beautiful Finger Lakes, Lovely gardens and vineyards. We sat on the patio enjoying wind under the umbrella and being so thankful for the day.

The trail goes along an old railroad track. It is flat, with a few side trails to the water. This was an old milling area. It is quiet, easy, and about 9/10 of a mile.

Based on many reviews we expected this to be a nice hike with beautiful scenery; it was not. The official trail does not allow you to get a very good view at Carpenter falls and we could only hear Angels falls. The trails themselves were well marked but were poorly maintained, and as we went on a rainy day we felt they were borderline unsafe. The other scenery is not especially beautiful. When we got to the lake we were surprised to find that there is only about a 20 or 30 foot area that we were allowed to access as there were private properties adjoining it. There are so many beautiful hikes in the finger Lakes region; we would not recommend this one

Some of the smoothest vodka and bourbon you will ever taste! While walking on the Charlie Major trail we came upon the Last Shot Distillery. Chris the spirit maker, and retired chef was there and passionately described his distilling process. All water in the process comes from Skaneateles Lake, which Chris says makes the spirits special. We agree! We enjoyed tasting all his product line of spirits. Smooth taste and no burn on the way down, sold us on buying a bottle of the Vodka and the Bourbon. I would have bought the Moonshine just because the name was cool, however we chose to buy our two favorite spirits. Great treat and change of pace from the wineries.
