Wade's Mill is Virginia's oldest operating commercial grist mill and has been stone-grinding grains since 1750. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. We stone-grind premium and heirloom grains into flours, grits, cornmeal and a range of specialty mixes. Our products are available in our Mill Shop, along with selected local food products and gifts. During opening hours, visitors can enjoy a free tour and explore three floors of historic milling equipment and museum displays. We run the 21-foot waterwheel and historic milling equipment Saturdays and Sundays 10-noon. We are a small, family-owned business and enjoy welcoming our visitors to the Mill. A visit to Wade's Mill makes a great family outing in the scenic Shenandoah Valley. Admission and parking are free and we have lovely gardens with a picnic area. Friendly dogs are welcome outside/on the grounds on a leash.
Seeing a "commercial" water powered mill in continuous operation since , if I remember correctly, 1720. The mill owner/operator was so friendly and full of information. You also get to see everything close up , and did you know it is possible and easy to regulate the speed of the water wheel/ the grinding regardless of how much water is available ( assuming you meet the minimum) be sure to stop by and see it for your self. Also great grains and other local craft foods available.

Stopped here for a tasting after hiking Crabtree Falls with a friend. Absolutely lovely staff! Not doing “tastings” due to COVID (great sanitation practices noted).. but wine flights are more than fairly priced. We did a red flight, white flight, and a mixed flight which included the prize-winning dessert wine. The brewery is easily accessed as well, and April is amazing!—above and beyond. Even though we were just trying the wine today, she offered to make reservations for the music tomorrow (live music on Sundays ! one to four p.m.). Can’t wait to go back to try their other offerings and chat with the rest of the lovely staff!

What a lovely , historical place to visit. A small museum, a farm dating back to 1809. But the views... and the photos we took of the buildings, the cows, sheep, the rolling hills, were worth the visit.
