Friends Landing is an outdoor waterfront access facility owned and operated by the Port of Grays Harbor. Originally built and maintained by volunteers, the park offers camping, fishing, boating, walking and accessible facilities. There is an 18 spot RV park, 11 tent sites, a 1.7 mile improved trail around Lake Quigg, a boat launch on the Chehalis River and a boat launch on Lake Quigg for non-motorized boats. Restroom and shower facilities are also available on-site. There are two day-use picnic shelters on-site that can be reserved in advance, in addition to playground facilities for families.
Friends Landing is just a short drive from Montesano. It is between the Chehalis River and Lake Quigg. There are camping sites available for tents and RVs. Picnic sites for day trippers and a boat landing. Lots of people were fishing. There is also a fabulous flat 1.7 mile paved walk around Lake Quigg with nice areas to sit. Our grandsons had a wonderful time walking around the lake. They also enjoyed the ripe thimble berries and the blackberries we found along the route.

Sailing on the Lady Washington has long been a goal of mine. Our harbor cruise was peaceful and relaxing. We departed from Aberdeen with a crew made up mostly of college-aged volunteers. These students work the ship over the summer under the direction of a captain and mate. It is a training ship and watching them receive and react to instruction was interesting.
The trip is slow-paced and the crew breaks up the time by singing shanty songs, a really fun experience. For about two hours we cruised up and down the Hoquiam River, watching the kids pull ropes to maneuver sails. We learned a bit about the history of the boat and found out it was featured in one of the Pirate's of the Caribbean movies.
We didn't get a tour below deck which was a disappointment as it was an advertised feature of our trip.
The crew, even those who had been on ship a short amount of time, were knowledgeable and friendly, happily answering questions of the passengers. It was really cool to watch them climb 80 feet in the air to raise the sails.
Other passengers beware, there are quite a few very steep steps to climb and descend. This may be a challenge for those with limited mobility.

I wanted to check out the dam and I found Coho Campground on the lake. Lots of summer entertainment possibilities. Take the road from Montesano since the road from Hwy 101 is a logging road not fit for cars. Wynoochee Valley Road is in excellent shape on the upper half. Closer to Montesano the road could use some help.

This is an indoor flea market that has just about anything! I saw a bedroom set from the Victorian era with marble top dresser and side table! Every time I go there is more stuff and it's all individual dealers, so you never know what you'll find. Plenty of affordable jewelry and the dealers are all very nice. They're not afraid to negotiate on price, which I like. I try to go there a couple of times a month, more if I've got to have something, I know I'll find it there. It's so cool!
