I have now done over 10 trips to Zimanga and every time I leave, I can't wait to get back! A conservation success story, Charl and the team have really created a piece of Photography Heaven on Earth. World-Class Hides and fantastic Rangers, combined with great accommodation, makes for the perfect Photography getaway. Highly recommended for any photography, birding and wildlife enthusiast.

I am a regular visitor to the game reserves in the Kwazulu Natal area. This experience was one of the better places that I have stayed at. The rooms were well furnished, with fantastic views. The air conditioning was a blessing as it was extremely hot and humid when we were there. The food was excellent, and the game drives were great, the ranger did everything possible to show us what we requested for the drive. There was nothing that was too much for the staff to attend to, they were always friendly. I hope to stay there again

Somkhanda Game Reserve is a community-owned Big 5 game reserve located in northern Zululand stretching across 12,000 hectares of rolling hills and natural bushland habitat. Somkhanda Game Reserve is owned by the Emvokweni Community Trust (ECT), who represent the Gumbi community, and is co-managed by WILDLANDS – a programme of the WILDTRUST. The Reserve focuses on improving ecosystem management and driving interventions that conserve endangered wildlife and species vulnerable to poaching and the illegal trade. Somkhanda promotes growth for the Gumbi community through ecotourism and environmental education opportunities, currently these initiatives employ around 100 community members.

We returned after 3 years and were once again so happy that we chose to go here and stay in the tented camp. The tents do need some repairs done - I am sure it is on the list of things to do :) We saw a large variety of animals and birds. The hides are well equipped and safe. One word of discontent...we have a Wild Green Card for all parks and yet had to pay an extra R200 ! The explanation : that is how it is !!!
