We took the 90 minutes drive from our accommodation to visit Bunut Bolong and it was really worth it. The last 20 minutes of the drive was along a smaller, bending mountain road with spectacular view.
The tree itself is impressive and imposing, the size of the hole is big enough for a truck to pass. It is worth taking a closer look at the tree to see how the branches and parts of the tree are woven together. It is a pity that the real history of the tree was not written on the site. Spare a few minutes to be walk pass the tree and check out the view of lush Balinese rain forest and valley on the left side of the tree, after the second warung.
It is also worth drive pass it and come back just to have the experience.

My name is Soepri. I was born and raised in Bali. To me, teaching how to surf is not only showing people a good time, it's sharing my passion; what I live for. While Surfing my whole life, I have been teaching for the past 8 years now in different schools around the island. To me, it is all about enjoying and sharing the feeling of the ride, not to show off, or impress anyone. I’ve started Surfing West Bali to offer people the true experience of what I do and the way I see it. I believe the complete experience is something that is missing on this island that is quickly expanding in tourism. I’m very proud to be Balinese and if you want to ride, then you are a surfer among us. Myself and the community around will embrace you as such. You will feel like a member of the family rather than an outsider.
Soep was a great teacher. 2 of us took a2 hour lesson for 2 day’s and improved very quickly. The waves are good for beginners. Soep provides all the equipment including rash vests. Would recommend.Hi Lottie Thank you very much for your review and recommended hope we can do other time. Cheers Soep

Low Tide Yoga runs week-long surf and yoga retreats as well as drop-in yoga classes in west Bali. The times are always changing because they're scheduled around the tide so have a look at our Facebook page, or else pop into Made's warung at the surf point - we have a noticeboard up there with class times.
Incredible yoga retreat in a yet undiscovered area of the island with rice paddies that run right up to the beach. Great balance of relaxation and culture with one class before breakfast getting you up to experience the breathtaking sunrise. With all of the day to yourself you are free to spend your time as you wish, Nina and Bev (great hosts) live locally and have a great relationship with the community which makes you feel part of it.
It was really welcoming to have a first night of luxury in the open house hotel after a long flight from London and quickly switched into holiday mode after a quick dip in the gorgeous pool. Then we settled into the local simple life in Medewi and found it very hard to come back to the busy life style back home.
Every detail had been thought of to make us feel welcome and at home. Great hosts doing incredible work to support the local community and made sure no local sights were missed of our bucket list of Bali.
If you are wanting active retreat or holiday this is a trip not to be missed by any explorer.

My family and I just stayed at Balian Beach for two weeks. It is a very quiet spot far away from the hustle and bustle of Central and South Bali. The east end of the beach was empty most of the time except for the locals flying their kites in the afternoons. On the west end of the beach the waves are bigger and the Surfers were having a great time. There are some Villas and a hotel or two, but it is a fairly small village. The beach front is about a 10-minute walk from the village market, post office, warungs, etc. We stayed on the east end of the beach at a lovely place called Alam Balian. Located on a hillside rice Terrace, there are three villas available for rent, as well as several very simple and small stilt house style rooms. It was incredibly affordable and we found the place through Airbnb. The owner, Wayan, totally spoiled us, cooking breakfast for us every day including eggs, toast, fresh fruit, Nasi Goreng, Mi Goreng, pancakes, etc. Wayan was also very helpful with transportation needs and recommendations for snorkeling on the North Coast, and things to do within about an hour or two drive. This was a nice place to have some quiet family time.
