An off beat place to see. Wander up from the car park - 10 minutes or thereabouts - and meet the very friendly people ( in costume ) who can tell you about the house. Entry to the house is by guided tour only - times are on the NT website. Inside you can only go up the staircase to the top. But it's a big, chunky, serious staircase; many landings between flights and the walls are covered in family portraits. Easy to go up the 100+ steps as you stop regularly for the well imformed guide to tell you about the portraits and history.of the house. There is a viewing platform on the roof - lovely views all round. And beautiful woodland walks in the grounds. Well worth a visit.
