Isla Negra is the last house he lived in before he died and it's where he was finally laid to rest - overlooking the sea. The location is beautiful, the house is unique and in keeping with his passion for ships. Neruda was a collector of things which are displayed through out the house. A separate section was added to display the many seashells he collected from around the globe. It is well worth the visit. If you want to avoid long lines it's advisable to get there early. Even if you have to wait you can spend time down at the shore or wander through the artists selling their wares along the path to the house or in the Cafe Restaurante Rincon del Poeta.

This charming home of the famous Chilean poet overlooks the Pacific and contains unusual collections, the tuxedo he wore when accepting the 1971 Nobel Prize and the simple burial plot of Neruda and his wife.
You don't have to know anything about Pablo Neruda to be in awe of the cliff-top location overlooking the crashing waves of the Pacific, the unique architecture,or the varied eclectic collections contained in each room. I was prepared to be disappointed after all the hype I had heard and read about it but this place rates a WOW! The first room you enter is a huge collection of mastheads from ships and it continues from there. This is a definite must-see if you're anywhere in the Santiago area. We didn't bother visiting his other two houses in Santiago and Valparaiso because this was said to be the best and I'm sure it is.

When visiting lsla Negra and Pablo Neruda's house consider a wonderful visit to La Nave Imaginaria and be held captivated in this replica recycled 15th century galleon...be prepared to let loose your inner child and enjoy yourself.

I understand why Pablo Neruda chose that place to live and write. It's the sound of the sea against the black rocks, it's the white foam going up every now and then, it's the blue sea! I've seen many seas but this bit is inspiring. Take your time to stay there for a long while.

You can see this lagoon when driving along the Litoral de los poetas....if there is any water in it....Sadly enough this is one of Chile´s nature projects that is doomed to fail....there is no water to keep the lagoon at a normal level...except when it rains...and for a couple of years now ther is no rain...mayor problem in Chile
So no....not worth visiting
