5 Things to Do in Gonghe County That You Shouldn't Miss
Gonghe County (in Tibetan, Kungho) is a county of Qinghai Province, China under the administration of Hainan Prefecture. The seat of Gonghe County is in the town of Qabqa (恰卜恰 Qiàbǔqià). Many people in this and surrounding Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures refer to the place by its Tibetan name, Chabcha (ཆབ་ཆ།).

A round-the-lake trip is recommended. Starting from Xining, one loop by cycling around the Qinghai Lake can be completed in two days, including sightseeing at different places and an overnight stay at one of the guesthouses near the Bird Island, about 14km west from Heima River. The guesthouses with similar standards at Heima River cost more. The place near the Bird Island is best for taking pictures. The roads are very good for cyclists and drivers. Recommend to do it anticlockwise and spend more time in the southern part of the route.

When we reached Sun Moon Lake we found we had an almost total white out and could not see much. On the occasions we did get a view we thought it OK but nothing special or of outstanding beauty. Definitely not worth coming to Taiwan just for it, but fine to see if you happen to come across it.

Most of the rivers in qinghai flows from the west to the east, yet this one is opposite. It's a very short one. And now they build up a park here and you need to pay 40rmb to get in, including cultural clothes wearing, yaks riding.

Just a peak and you could look down on sun moon mountain area. You will pass by this point anyway, so it's not bad but no need to visit specifically. Enjoy!
