5 Things to Do in Ennistymon That You Shouldn't Miss

January 19, 2018 Concepcion Newsome

Ennistymon or Ennistimon (Irish: Inis Díomáin) is a country market town in County Clare, near the west coast of Ireland. A popular tourist spot, it has a typical Irish main street, with many traditional pubs. The River Inagh, with its small rapids known as the Cascades, runs through the town, behind the main street. A bridge across the river leads to nearby Lahinch, on the N67 national secondary road. The town is connected to Ennis by the N85, continuing the settlement's main street.

Eugene's Bar

Unfortunately randomly visited this pub and had an extremely unpleasant encounter/conversation with the most obnoxious arrogant opinionated bar owner my partner and I have ever met.
Have never reviewed a pub on TripAdvisor but felt the need after our experience here.
Pub is also extremely tacky and unauthentic. But the bar owner is our reason for the poor review.

Cooley House

Nestled in the heart of Ennistymon, Cooley's House or Cooley's as its more commonly known is a warm, welcoming family run pub. It's the ideal place to come and enjoy some traditional Irish music (every Wednesday and Friday nights), a nice fire and a drink or two. A tourist favourite, traditional Irish Coffee's are Cooley's speciality, the perfect complement to a local trad session!

I found The Aloe Tree to be an excellent resource for food and personal items during my stay in Lahinch. They have gluten free foods, coffee and tea, and eco-friendly, healthy personal items. The staff is really friendly and super helpful. Highly recommend stopping here.

The Great Hunger Memorial

Reviewed By Sue H - Sydney, Aust

After hearing a bit of background on the significance of this monument and in particular the little boy depicted in the statue, Michael Rice, I found it a very emotional place. It is the first memorial in Ireland placed in memory of the hunger period and especially erected for the children that lost their lives. If you happen to be in County Clare, please make a visit here and pay your respects.
