As other reviewers said, an amazing gem in the middle of nowhere. the craftsmanship, the details and the back-breaking work that goes into making there tiny works of art left me speechless. You will never look at a bead the same way again.

It's by all means worth a visit, it's interesting and the view is beautiful and peaceful. Keep in mind that Lake Volta is the largest lake made by men in the whole world. Combine the visit with 2-3 days at Aylos Bay(my favourite) nearby Atimpoku, just south of the lake.

We visited here today and the trip was great. However in entry , we discovered some discrimination against foreigners. They were charged more than locals at a cost almost three times the local price. I was shocked and ask the cashier why. I got an answer that was quite astonishing. He said we pay more because we are foreigners. And if you dont speak the local language like our friends who were from Ghana but spoke another dialect, were also considered foreigners. Ghana passport and all. That's it. There's no debate. If you're a foreigner, you pay more. I tried to call his manager who was not available and mobile reception was non existent. No snacks or food to buy and no facilities for disabled persons. I believe that whoever owns that facility is advocating discrimination against foreigners.

Over the past 2 years I've lived in Ghana, my favourite day trip is guided mountain biking with Ghana Bike and Hike Tours located in Aburi.
The office is currently upstairs in the last building on the right hand side of the road 10m before the entrance to the Aburi Botanical Gardens. Look for the sign.
Kofi (the Manager) is by far the best guide - very knowledgeable, patient and accommodating. If you can't get Kofi, such as when he needs to drive the car to pick you up, I'd recommend Max.
You can choose from a number of different biking routes of varying lengths (between 1.5-6 hours, depending on how fast you pedal). My favourite is the Pineapple Valley tour. It's true mountain biking - think rocky descents, tight single trails, carrying bikes over small rivers etc - and only for the fit, adventurous and intrepid. Having said that, many of my friends and family have built up biking confidence and cardiovascular endurance progressively over a few rides.
Kofi has bikes and helmets you can hire. Although Kofi spends a lot of time and effort maintaining his fleet, his bikes are older and more-loved than I'm used to. For that reason, I always bring my own bike along with me.
A tip or two ... My best experiences are always when I come completely prepared. Bring packaged food (canned tuna, muesli bars, gels if you use them), heaps of water, sunscreen, mobile phone and some spare cash along with you. Save Kofi's number into your phone (just in case you or a guide needs to call Kofi). While the tour might not be what you're used to back home, you'll get out into nature and experience what life is really like for Ghanaians beyond Accra.

Before we went to the umbrella rock we enjoyed the Boti Falls which are near by. We payed I think 20 Cedi each. Both the rock and the waterfall included. The Boti Falls are realy beautiful. I'm not quite sure if you really can swim, it doesn't seem like that. Hiking to the umbrella rock takes about 40 min if you are fit. But there is also another easier way to get there by car. Be well prepared to organise a taxi or Trotro to go back to Koforidua after you finished your trip. We came on a saturday and the road wasn't as busy as we thought it would be. After 2 hours a Trotro passed by and we joined it. All in all a cool experience. I would recommend it!
