What a great place! We had such an amazing time getting to know all the animals, feeding them, holding them, and even riding a couple of them :) Every single staff member we’ve encountered was incredible kind and friendly. My kids made some incredible memories there. Highly recommend a visit.

The most beautiful cave in Wisconsin and the upper Midwest, Cave of the Mounds lies just off U.S. Highways 18/151 in Blue Mounds, WI. The United States Department of the Interior and the National Park Service designated Cave of the Mounds a National Natural Landmark because the site possesses "exceptional value as an illustration of the nation's natural heritage and contributes to a better understanding of man's environment". Curious tourists and budding cave enthusiasts have been enjoying an introduction to caving in the midwest for years while visiting Cave of the Mounds. Commonly referred to as the "jewel box" of America's major caves for the variety and delicacy of its formations, Cave of the Mounds is recognized by the Chicago Academy of Sciences as "the significant cave of the upper Midwest".
Well worth the drive to get to from Madison where we were staying. After a short introduction film about how the cave was formed and founded, and what stalactites, stalagmites, trilobites and a few other things you will see in the cave we proceded down into the depths of the cave with our tour guide. On this tour at some of the stops we sang some Christmas songs which was a lot of fun. At one point on the tour our guide turned out the lights so total darkness was experienced. Very interesting, been a long time since I had been in a limestone cave and had forgotten how beautiful the formations can be.

Climbing either of the two towers puts you above the treetops at the highest points of this park (and you drive up a long uphill way to get there). The view lets you see much of the Blue Mounds area. Each tower has a list of the visible sights. The pool is now closed for the Winter. If you are driving on Route 151 (is also Route 18 here) and approaching from the East you will have no problems as the exit is well marked for "Blue Mound State Park ->". But if you are approaching from the West, the Wisconsin highway map makes it appear that County Road K is the one that takes you to the park. You reach K about 3 exits before you would see the signs that lead to the best entrance to the park. County Road K passes West of the park and has no labeled path to the park. There is one road that could get you there by a long entrance from the North, but I could not find that. Use Google Maps or other computer map program. I chose to go by the paper map (Wisconsin highway map) and it was less helpful in this case. There are many hiking trails (and separate bicycling trails) here through the heavily wooded area. There is also a large campground. The "Military Ridge" State Trail goes along the Southern edge of the park (it follows a 19th Century Military Road).
