Essendon Station dates from the mid-19th century. In conjunction with the completion of the Buckley St underpass, the station has been upgraded. Due to the lockdown, fewer passengers are traveling into the city and parking at the station. The station is a handsome red-brick structure. It is manned by railway station staff during the day and PSOs at night. It has toilets and a waiting room, which is useful in cold and windy weather.

There's always something going on in Keilor Shopping Precinct. The Shopping Precinct begins at the Niddrie Central Shopping Centre and ends somewhere around the Matthews Avenue tram stop, although the Precinct is always expanding. Towards one end is Mylk and Honey, one of the Precinct's best venues for coffee and cake. There are restaurants and cafes everywhere' plus fassion retailers and a popular $2 shop, where you can get anything at one-tenth the price elsewhere. . Some shops last six months and some go on forever. There's always something new in Keilor Road, take a stroll. and see what you can find. If you want a break, the Nidrie Library has comfortable chairs.

The most recent time we visited St John's was for an orchestral concert. The church is a marvellous venue for such performances, due to its great acoustics. On a more prosaic level, there is good parking and public transport is convenient making it suitable for occasions such as weddings and funerals.

Essendon Football Club, known as the Bombers, is an Australian Football League (AFL) powerhouse. The team no longer plays at Windy Hill.. All AFL games in Melbourne are played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Marvel Stadium (Docklands), both near the city centre.. The Windy Hill ground is still used by local sporting teams. The social club still functions, offering hearty meals at reasonable prices. Interstate and overseas fans who want to view the hallowed turf are welcome. Bombers supporters have fond memories of Windy Hill, where the red and black army urged on thier heroes. It's unlikely that AFL games will return to suburban grounds, much as die-hard fans would applaud it.

The Salvation Army Moonee Ponds Corps Centre is a strriking building, constrcted in Earlty English Gothic style. It it is lbuilt ight brown Hawwthorn bricks, with cream highlights. It was built in 1882, making it the second oldest religious building in Moonee Valley. It was originanlly a Primitive Methodist Church. It has the look of church, without religious symbols. There is, for example, no cross. Where one would expect to see a cross, you can see a fleur-de-lys. This is one of the most significant and distinctive church buildings in the City of Moonee Valley.;It's at the corner of Buckley St and Mt Alexander Road.
