I first discovered Victor's Artes Populares in 1987 when it was located in a building near Sanborn's House of Tiles. It is now easy to find on Isabel La Catolica if you carefully look for #97. Every time I visit Mexico City, I return to Victor's to shop. I now have about one of most items in the shop as I love to collect Mexican folk art! The prices range from inexpensive to beyond my means as you will find typical items from all over Mexico, some being one-of-a-kind, museum quality pieces. Pilar is the owner now and her nephew helps her in the store. She does speak English and has a wealth of knowledge of Mexican arts. The store is quiet and you can take your time to look and ask questions. If you have a true love of Mexican Folk Art, you can spend lots of time here your first visit! Note the hours--- not open on the weekends.
