5 Science Museums in Canary Islands That You Shouldn't Miss

May 27, 2021 Mikaela Didonna

The sun-drenched Canary Islands lie close to North Africa and have an exotic flavor of their own. Hundreds of volcanoes, rolling sand dunes, rich forests and rugged cliffs dapple these seven Atlantic gems. Catch a ferry to Lanzarote. Ride a camel through volcanic Timanfaya National Park. Take on Tenerife, home of Mount Teide, Spain's tallest peak. Romp Grand Canary's beaches or hike La Gomera's Garajonay National Park. More adventures await on tiny El Hierro, verdant La Palma and peaceful Fuerteventura.

Museo Canario de Meteoritos

From the Museum we make guided visits to the Aboriginal site of Cuatro Puertas, the largest archaeological park in Gran Canaria. After the visit to the place (declared of cultural interest in 1972), we show the constellations and the relations that the deposit has with the stars. Get to know the customs of the old canaries in the site of Cuatro Puertas, in a guided and didactic way.

It was soooo amazing! If you are into science and have kids of any (and I mean it – any) age with you, that’s the place to be. We have spent 3h in this museum and honestly – we could have spent twice as much. It’s very hands-on experience, there is even room for toddlers (toddler science – how cool is that??) to explore. My kids (5 & 8) had an amazing time in this museum and we will definitely return on our next visit to Tenerife.

Museo Chinijo

Advertised as the smallest museum in the world, this is a small building tucked away in town at La Graciosa. If you visit the island and have a bit of time, it is free to enter the museum and worth having a look at.
