If you want your dreams to come true, use Kazabe Luxury Travel while in Cartagena! I wanted to spend my birthday on a day trip to Rosario Islands, specifically to Cholon. I had researched and found that all other agencies were offering a trip that had to include four or more people. It was just my husband and I, so we couldn't book it. When Carolina from Kazabe travel checked and realized that there were no other trips available, she created a beautiful trip for me! She called other hotels and friends until she found a group of 10 to celebrate my birthday. Who offers that kind of service!?! It was a Magical, Dreams Come True day! During the trip out to the Islands, music was playing, drinks were flowing and friends were made. Our first stop was La Piscina which was a beautiful cove with other boats anchored all around. You could snorkel, or kayak, or swim, or float out to a unique little bar located on a rock. I only wish I had a picture of this beautiful place! The 2nd stop was for lunch at La Cocotera. OMG! Authentic, delicious, traditional Colombian lunch of whole fish, plantains and coconut rice. From there, we went to the ultimate destination of Cholon. If you haven't seen it, Google it! Such a fun, unique party place. Boats are anchored around a little island where there are bars, and food being grilled and dancing and music and FUN! Such a fabulous day! The only caution I have is to be aware that the boat ride back to Cartagena (no matter what boat you are on) is through rough waters. Our new Colombian friends though, made it a great trip back by keeping us entertained with music and rum. Seriously, don't book a trip to the Rosario Islands with anyone else! (BTW, we used them for transportation from the airport to hotel, and it was a smooth, easy, effortless way to get through the airport and quickly to our hotel).

We had a great time . The tour guide was a genuinely nice person but as mentioned before he is more reserved and not very talkative. I speak English and my wife speaks Spanish so she was able to communicate better even though he did speak some English. I am a very big guy and the horses they gave me were very well behaved and had no problems getting me where I needed to go. We went on about a two and a half hour ride and it was more than enough for me. I'm sure you could go farther if you were a bit more of an experienced rider and had the desire to go farther. We did see wild parrots and that was the first time for me. The guide did tell us there was the possibility of seeing a monkey but unfortunately I did not see one on my trip. The lunch was outstanding it was home-cooked over an open fire stove. The bathrooms were clean and all of the people seemed very happy that we were there. I have been on many horseback rides around the world and I really enjoyed this one. This course even though it was a little more difficult than where I have been in the past the guides were right there to help us every step of the way. They even offered to walk by our horse if we needed. With the guides right there with us I would have felt very comfortable with my 8-year-old son if he had been with us. I felt very safe throughout this trip. Tom Casey

4. Visit Palenque

Local Cartagena Tours

San Basilio de Palenque, is a village in the Bolivar region located 60 minutes from Cartagena. It was declared a Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity for being the first slave city in America to be considered free. San Basilio de Palenque, was the refuge of many blacks who were enslaved and who in the sixteenth century fled from the Spanish inhabitants of the city of Cartagena. And under Benkos Biohó they achieved their freedom. The palenques were impaled by Africans to take refuge from those who persecuted them. This Colombian people still retain many of the African cultural traditions, such as language, social organization, cultural rites, medical practices, dance and food, all due to the isolation in which people live. In this city they have developed their own language, a mixture of African, Spanish and Portuguese languages called PALENQUERO.

Inclusions: Lunch, Air-conditioned vehicle, Local Guide, Bilingual Guide, Presentation of traditional dances

My friends and I did the real cartagena tour with Marlon. He was so friendly, funny and made us feel very comfortable. He gave us the real information on how people live and showed us all areas of Cartagena. He is very knowledgeable and full of facts. Excellent experience. We wanted a quick tour to the mud volcano and some fun photo shots. We hate group tours because so much time is wasted picking other guests from different hotels, etc. Also liked that our guide suggested a late afternoon pick up time to avoid traffic and congestion at the mud volcano. We got picked up at our hotel taken to the volcano directly and it was not crowded at all. We truly got to enjoy it and take some pictures without having other people crowding them. I would highly recommend this company. Our tour guide was excellent and the entire experience was effortless. I definitely recommend going at an off time when the big busses full of tourists are not there. The entire experience is pretty quick and the volcano mud area is small so not many people can fit at the same time.
