Vlissingen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈvlɪsɪŋə(n)] ( listen); Zeelandic: Vlissienge; historical name in English: Flushing) is a municipality and a city in the southwestern Netherlands on the former island of Walcheren. With its strategic location between the Scheldt river and the North Sea, Vlissingen has been an important harbour for centuries. It was granted city rights in 1315. In the 17th century Vlissingen was a main harbour for ships of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It is also known as the birthplace of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter.

The "Boulevard in Vlissingen is the most unique place in Europe i think, nowhere you will see big Sea-ships passing by the beach so close. Its beautiful, great view, a lot of restaurants and terrace and also some great hotel. Love the sea, the beach and Big Ships ? then Vlissingen is the place to be !

Vlissingen municipality offers its visitors 6 beaches;Badstrand in front of Boulevard Evertsen is the most urban.Build up and busy Badstrand Vlissingen is situated in front of the high-rise apartment towers that face the busy marine traffic on the waterway of Westerschelde. The large ships can be seen passing in front of the beach. To the west the beaches become less build up and on warm sunny days there are less visitors as well. These beaches strech all the way to Westkapelle have names like Nollestrand,Duinstrand,West Duin. I enjoyed seeing the sunset and on less crowed days several species of marine birds can be seen on Vlissingen's beaches.Bird Species I saw on the Badstrand include Kentish Plover-(Strandplevier);Turnstone(-Steenloper),Oystercatcher-(Scholekster).
