5 Other Outdoor Activities in Bratislava Region That You Shouldn't Miss

June 3, 2021 Concepcion Newsome

Bordering both Austria and Hungary and couched between the Danube and the Little Carpathian Mountains, Bratislava is a picturesque city whose natural surroundings are rivaled only by its own historic architecture. Dating back centuries, the Old Town is home to numerous historic churches, castles, galleries and museums, including the Museum of Jewish Culture and Bratislava City Museum. The surviving fortifications at Michael's Gate provide a glimpse into the medieval history of the city.

Happy Dog Forest Hike

Are you a dog lover? Want to enjoy the beauty of Bratislava City Forests while doing a good deed? Discover a recreational area in the Small Carpathians with me and a dog of your choice from the "Sloboda zvierat" (Liberty of animals) shelter. It has already been five years since my German Shepherd passed away and went to dog heaven. I used to walk him nearly every weekend in local recreational areas. Along the way I often stopped at a small buffet for a special syrup-sweetened tea and a typical Slovak waffle bar or boiled sausage with mustard and bread. Sometimes it was possible to find mushrooms in the forest, too. Nowadays when I want to spend some time in nature, I usually go to a shelter for unwanted dogs and help out by taking one or two of the dogs for a walk. Would you like to share this experience with me and see where Bratislava locals go to jogg, have barbecues, paddle small boats on ponds? Join me!
